I have to admit, when Nezumi introduced himself as "Rat" as I watched the dub today, I laughed pretty damn hard. Anyway, I was curious as to if other's would have preferred the dub version calling him "Rat" or "Nezumi". I'd probably always refer to him as 'Nezumi' simply out of habit.

Personally, I wouldn't have minded either way. His name doesn't do much for character development or the back story other than putting more emphasis on the fact that he's deemed to be trash by the No. 6 community (However, I have not begun the manga yet, so if there is more of a use to his name, feel free to correct me.)

Yes! I've been digging around, trying to see if Sentai decided to go with "Rat" as opposed to "Nezumi" and I'm pleased with what I've found :) Honestly I know a lot of people will get into a fuss about it, but to a native speaker, "Nezumi" is not a name. They hear it and will automatically think of mice/rats like the one he keeps in his company. It just sounds like a "name" of sorts because it's in a foreign language.

Anyway, I can't wait till I get my copy in the mail! I loved the series to death and I'm hoping for a decent enough dub that I can share with my friends who prefer not to "read as they watch".

I think it was pretty much a given that they'd translate Nezumi's name to Rat in the dub, seeing how Nezumi is not a name but a word and would have no meaning if left untranslated, like you've both mentioned ^-^

Personally, I'm so used to thinking of him as Nezumi that I was kind of dreading hearing them call him Rat in the dub. However, I found that it didn't bother me at all. I've only watched the first dubbed episode, since I live outside America and they don't make it available anywhere else (those selfish sods), but the name "Rat" didn't sound out of place at all.

So yeah, I think translating his name was the right thing to do :)

It makes sence that they use Rat and not Nezumi, but I would still rather hear Nezumi.

I read the graphic novels instead of online scanlations so I'm used to "Rat". The English dub is bad, and I usually prefer to watch dubs -_-
