| This is the fact. Searching usernames I saw some users who created profiles but never used it. People who just create the account but don't even create a list or even posted the forum. I propose to take those old accounts and delete them, if possible. This idea come to my mind because a friend of mine wanted to join MAL with the nickname Sephiroth (the one and only he likes) but an user alredy registered with that nickname but never used it. It's just that I found useless to keep account created long ago but never used (an so, deleting them nothing would be lost, right? (and plus new people will be able to choose again that nick :D) ) |
| My 2 cents: I don't think it should be done. What if the user comes back? Account hijacking is not cool. DA, for example, has a strict policy on this: Do you close unused accounts, or release them to the public? We will not close an account simply due to a lack of activity. As we do not automatically close inactive accounts we also will not seize or otherwise 'reset' an existing account for someone elses use and we do not assist people in acquiring or 'taking over' accounts which they did not personally create. If you wish to take over an inactive account your only recourse is to attempt to contact the original owner using any public contact information that they may have left available. We cannot assist you in this process and we cannot release any private information for this purpose. |
| I think Xinil has already said he won't do this, but in any case one way around that DA response is to have a notice saying your account will be deleted if you don't add anythign after one week of creation. In fact, this was an old policy of MAL. We took that out a while ago. |
