Most of our members prefer anime to manga, but some of us would be willing to read if it was worth it. (:P) Are there any stories you have read that are better than the average?? What makes you feel that way? You can discuss novels & dojinshi here too. If you thought it was really good ... please share it with us!!

I recently read volume one of Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga. I've always been curious of the 600+ anime. Well, I thought the manga was pretty good. I have read reviews that say it stays that way. So if you like mysteries, or were curious about it before, you should give it try.

I'm reading Dokebi Bride. It's fairly good. There are seven volumes as as now; I'm on the 4th one. You can preview the first chapter here, at the publisher's website.

Reading Death Note manga, simply because I like anything related to Death Note. But seriously, the manga is just as good as the anime.

I plan to read Death Note. I'm a fan of the series too. Right now, I'm reading Berserk (thx Dante!), GARDEN (yaoi), Oretama (~.~), & a manhwa called Bride of the Water God. The latter is a shoujo that's turning out to be pretty good.

I have to give thanks to gINGEr for turning me on to Panorama of Hell, I loved it. You read Hell Baby yet? It's by Hino Hideshi as well. I love his stuff.

I'm such a big fanboy of Death Note, I own all of the manga ^^

I'm reading Battle Royale and its unique in my opinion. The idea of violence due to the media being involved is a nice way to have people look at the times today. The media is influencing a lot of things. Deaths make headlines now, what's up with that? The fact that more violent things take priority over other, nicer, news. It's unknown where this will lead. The media is affecting more of society than people think.

I've been wanting to read that for some time. I love dystopian future stories. Deadman Wonderland is similar. And yea, I agree with you about the news. Is Battle Royale bloody/gory? I think I remember reading that it was.

Bloody, gory, and erotic in a way. It was controversial so it was removed from a lot of things on its initial release (the novel). The movie is being shown in the US soon, 10 years after it originally was showcased.

I haven't read Deadman Wonderland yet but the anime was promising if they build on it for a second season.

kay - thx. I've seen the japanese film, and I can def see how it is controversial. I'm assuming the manga is a bit worse in that respect. So is the US remaking it?

I haven't read Deadman wonderland yet either. I'm not much of a manga reader (but I get into it sometimes). I was only referring to how the franchise's story is somewhat similar to Battle Royale.

There have been talks of a remake but the original is being shown in select theaters.

I read manga when I get the chance, I recommend Battle Royale.

ah okay - thx for the rec - i get into reading it every now and then (though lately it's been mostly manhwa), and last time that happened i was actually trying to clear enough series out of the way i had already started so i could start Battle Royale - since i had recently watched the film --- you make want to get back to that :D

Lately I've been reading "Blade of the Immortal" and can't get enough of it. The story is great, has a lot of samurai stuff and gory fights. I've seen the anime about a year ago, though it was pretty good, so decided to read the manga too. And I'm glad I did ^^

I added it to our relations bc that's exactly the kind of manga we want to tell people about ("can't get enough of it" :D).

Just finished volume 12 of Battle Royale, and damn it is good. I'm kinda sad though cause of what just happened but I'm also sad that there are only 3 volumes left. :(

I have too! I recently was able to get Black God vol 1 & 2 in my collection and realize how tough it will be to get the rest :(

I started Yotsuba, Maid-sama, Kobato, and they're all great!

I'm going to start collecting my beloved Eyeshield 21 and Black Cat soon. I might post pics of my collection/ messy desk

exceptional?
ok I see here this what I want to write is a bit different type in many many ways

but from all mangas I've read and anime I can say this is best one ever made
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
what is about? android girl running a cafe
why so good? this is hard to tell so there will be a lot of writing here ;) ... first of all it's beautifull
secondly it's peacefull and nostalgic - mainly by main character but also by those who surround her, but also/mainly by visual side

it feels similar to Aria (same sub-genre) but it's much slower, melancholic
maybe a bit of warning... it's not a series to read at once - than it sucks, but slowly watching pictures (with parts when there are few pages without any words, just landscapes) and going with story - it's great, even more than that :)

I have heard a lot about Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. is a favorite of readers. Hearing it from a member though... it must be added. Thanks for sharing. :3

I've been reading The One manhua. I love it to death. I've gone through almost 5 of the books in one session. (haven't been sleeping well) I urge anyone who likes romance to read it if you haven't. It's not just shoujo either. There are dark themes that run through it and it's very mature. Def recommended to fans of Paradise Kiss and comix like that. Rarely do mangas or the like grab me so much as this one has. It's not without its flaws, but definitely great and has two twin bishies that are stuck in my head right now, and prob will be for a longass time. =3

Mahoraba
series that looks on the beginning as a clone of any harem series (with many shared "types" of characters - clingy friend, lazy lady and good-hearted boy who wants to help everybody)

but than it shows it's true colours - for starters fact that main girl is mentally ill, everybody else having some trauma in the past that made them who they are now - and still it remains one of most optimistic and heartwarming series.
Great positive is how author has shown this illness and how other people react to it.
I love it :)

Last night I finished reading "Sundome". At first I thought that it was just some comedy/ ecchi manga, but turned out to have a very good story. Similar in a way with "Nazo no Kanojo X" anime/manga but much better.

Finished reading "Cage of Eden" manga. It's like an ecchi version of Jurassic Park. Only problem I had was with the ending. It seemed rushed.

Yeah, Battle Royale is great. The art style is a bit weird, didn't quite fit the gory scenes.

I read that a little while ago and I agree. I think that the decline in the popularity of the series might have caused it's premature end. I wish he had more time to expand it T.T

"Onanie Master Kurosawa" was recommended after I finished reading Sundome. Found the title very funny and checked it out. Was also the first time reading a doujin so it took a bit to adjust to the art style, but the story more then compensates for it.
