addiction is needed by the market to maximize profit so i say the government should have better regulations for corporations exploiting the human tendency for instant gratification

Yes and now

While stuff like positive reinforcement (games with +100 after each kill, notifications with people giving likes to you) or additive stuff to food are made to make you like it and never stop consuming, in the end it is your decision.

I know it is hard, but you are the one that should just realize and stop before addiction consume you over.

I'm guessing somebody told you that it's not their fault they have addictions.

Well, it is, sadly. They choose it for themselves every day.

addiction is by default an illness and not a moral choice if its that easy then there will be no addicts

In my opinion your genetics are your fate. Addiction is a chemical property just like love.

It is a mix of faults of yourself/circumstances/genetics.

@deg I agree with this. Some people are physically or psychologically more susceptible to addictive substances. I appreciate addicts who accept that about themselves and do their best to avoid whatever substance they're addicted to, even if that means they need to avoid certain people or events.

It may not be their fault, but it certainly is their problem.

In all honesty I would say generally speaking yes it is the individual's fault. Because nobody is going to point a gun to anybody's head and force them to do a lot of these addictive things they are into. I mean, I hope we haven't gotten to that point yet! XD

If you want an actual answer - it's complex.

Many things people are addicted to, or "addicted" to, are partially due to choice.

But how much choice we actually have - rather than what's just perceived - varies by individual. Often based on factors beyond their control, right down to what they were exposed to growing up.

Then there's chemical addiction in which "just stopping" can actually kill you. In that case, it really isn't their choice, any more than it's your choice to eat food and drink water.

As someone who deals with addiction myself (from my own experience and from seeing others around me), a lot of it can come from severe psychological pressure and needing a quick fix to escape from the pain of life. While I may have a less severe one as mine isn't substance related, that need to dull the pain especially under severe conditions leads a lot of people to negative behaviors because their brains just can't handle it anymore and need something and literally anything. Instead of blaming the person outright try and understand what may and led someone to the bad spot they are in

People who are addicted to things are pathetic and morally degenerate.

There is no fault in addiction. Only victims. The addicted person, and the people who are around the addicted person.
Addiction is a problem that can only be fixed by the person, and they need to want it. But that doesn't mean they're capable of putting themselves into a mindset where they can achieve that. Addiction stems from all manners of places, and self-medication is undoubtedly the reason that is hardest to recover from.
So although it's the addicted person's responsibility to help themselves, it's difficult to blame them for it.
Where it gets complicated is when the addict is taking a substance that is making them behave in a way that outright harms others.
It's a vicious cycle of guilt, shame, emptiness, depression "Time to self medicate to stop feeling these things." Rinse, repeat. Not even taking into consideration withdrawals. For substances like alcohol, those withdrawals will make you wish for death itself, and they last far too long for most people to endure it. They can also be outright fatal. Going cold-turkey is the worst thing you can do, but the case with a lot of addicts is they lack the inhibition to stop "chasing the dragon" so to speak. So even if they're "weening off" it, that little bit they have will turn into a lot.
I think addictive substances is one of the most evil aspects of the universes creation.
