While I haven't been keeping up with everything this show has been throwing at me, the show finally gets to the matter at hand in that Nene is doomed to die, but Hanako is trying to find a way to reverse that curse. So in the second half, Aoi ends up being taken by the Reaper and is willing to sacrifice herself to the far shore so that Nene can keep on living, but Nene doesn't want her life to be saved at the cost of another living human. So she goes to the Red House and learns more about Hanako's time when he was alive, and then heads for the River Styx to rescue Aoi before she's whisked away to the far shore.
So to end things, Nene and company find Aoi, and then encounter the Reaper. Kou tries to fight back, but ends up being outmatched, while Teru ends up taking one for the team as he stops the Reaper from hurting Kou. And in the end, Aoi is rescued and Nene is prepared to die. However, Hanako isn't giving up and after Tsukasa drops a hint, he knows what he needs to do, and that is to break the yorishiros of the Seven Wonders, and for the Reaper that would be Sumire. Four of them are already broken, but breaking the remaining three is going to be tough. And that's where things end as Aoi has been returned, as well as the curse that will kill Nene soon, and she has been preparing to die, but there's another way to lift the curse.
Final Thoughts
While the show continues to have great artwork, interesting characters, and does a nice job with being light-hearted in the face of a serious problem, this season's story writing was kind of all over the place seeing that the story surrounding the 4th Wonder felt too drawn out and was longer than it should have been. The first half was lighthearted stuff before getting to the 4th Wonder arc that dragged on. But the second half, the story flows much better as the 6th Wonder arc was just right in length, all while the story is much more interesting and put together well. And of course, the selling point continues to be the interesting cast. So in all, it continues to be a nice show carried by its unusual art style that's fit for something supernatural. The story writing in the first half just felt too complex and dragged out, but the second half it's much more straightforward and flows better, and averaging those two things out is about as good as the first season.
