No. Overall is not needed but if you really want to then watch fate/grand order:first order that should be enough to be a little more close to the character, and so for overall plot and understanding you can watch this blindly and you be fine without knowing context. As far as remember. Sorry if I’m wrong tho

You don’t need to watch the main trilogy to watch this (Fate Staynight, Fate UBW, Fate Heavens Feel, also you don’t have to watch zero).

Fate Grand Order is adapted out of order and is missing singularities before this one, so context to what is happening is gonna be missing for anime only.

I recommend watching Fate grand order first order, and then watch Fate grand order Camelot to give more context to what’s happening in the series, before watching this one.

first order 1st, camelot 6th and babylonia 7th. unfortunately they havent animated the rest of the singularities yet so you have to jump straight from first order to camelot

Arc 7: Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia
Arc 8: Fate/Grand Order: Shuukyoku Tokuiten - Kani Jikan Shinden Solomon

So by only watching the anime, you'll be missing a major chunk of the entire story.

You don’t, because Zero has no connection other than characters.

FGO has no connection to the main trilogy, the grail war doesn’t even follow the same rules as a standard grail war.

if only for FGO, then you should start at

>Fate/Grand Order: Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot (it has two movies)
>Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia
>Fate/Grand Order: Final Singularity-Grand Temple of Time: Solomon

u wont understand the whole story tho cause the anime still hasn't adapt the other singularity, so u should get into the mobile game if u want to understand the story fully, if u just wanna watch it go for it its still good.

So while people are generally saying that you dont have to watch the og trilogy before fgo content, technically thats correct, however first order is aboit the singularity that takes place during the 5th grail war, so there is context thatll be missed if you havnt seen at least one of the original routes.
