Brazilian publisher JBC is releasing the manga in a 6-volume version and I was trying to understand how would that fit in the 16-volume version so I could properly check what I’ve read here on MAL. After several hours of research I got from Tezuka Productions’ page a japanese ebook seller with the 16-volume version and after the lame automatic translation from my browser I crossed data with the TezukaInEnglish’s page and I think I could properly break down the puzzle.
I also got the disjointing for VIZ Media edition (11-volumes) so maybe I can help other people.

From Wikipedia and TezukaInEnglish.com we have 12 arcs from this manga, being them:
Dawn, Future, Yamato, Space (aka Universe), Karma (aka Hō-ō which means Firebird), Resurrection, Robe of Feathers, Nostalgia, Civil War (aka Turbulent Times), Life, Strange Beings and Sun. They got split in 16 volumes originally:

From the “original” 16-volumes version I got this:

  1. Dawn Pt. 1
  2. Dawn Pt. 2
  3. Future
  4. Yamato / Space
  5. Karma Pt. 1
  6. Karma Pt. 2
  7. Resurrection Pt. 1
  8. Resurrection Pt. 2 / Robe of Feathers
  9. Nostalgia Pt. 1
  10. Nostalgia Pt. 2
  11. Civil War Pt. 1
  12. Civil War Pt. 2
  13. Life / Strange Beings
  14. Sun Pt. 1
  15. Sun Pt. 2
  16. Sun Pt. 3

Completing the 19 chapters from the 16 volumes version.

VIZ Media printed the manga in a 11-volumes version plus an extra:

  1. Dawn Pt. 1 / Dawn Pt. 2
  2. Future
  3. Yamato / Space
  4. Karma Pt. 1 / Karma Pt. 2
  5. Resurrection Pt. 1 / Resurrection Pt. 2
  6. Nostalgia Pt. 1 / Nostalgia Pt. 2
  7. Civil War Pt. 1
  8. Civil War Pt. 2 / Robe of Feathers
  9. Strange Beings / Life
  10. Sun Pt. 1
  11. Sun Pt. 2

Idk how they split the 3 parts from Sun but they are probably there, they also released a 12th volume named Early Works with 6 episodes from Egypt, 8 from Greece and 4 from Rome that were released in Shojo Club between May-56 and December-57 not accounted for this 1967 version).

And now from Editora JBC in brazilian portuguese 6-volumes version:
We only have 4 volumes released by today (Sep 4th, 2025), so I will speculate the other 2 now and will come here after every new release to adjust, if necessary, so the data will be correct. (red italic will be used to represent the speculation)

  1. Dawn Pt. 1 / Dawn Pt. 2 / Future
  2. Yamato / Space / Karma Pt. 1 / Karma Pt. 2
  3. Resurrection Pt. 1 / Resurrection Pt. 2 / Robe of Feathers / Nostalgia Pt. 1 / Nostalgia Pt. 2
  4. Nostalgia Pt. 3 (?) / Civil War Pt. 1 / Civil War Pt. 2
  5. Life / Strange Beings / Sun Pt. 1 / Sun Pt. 2 / Sun Pt. 3
  6. Early Works (Egypt, Greece and Rome)

Table for an easier comparison:
Vol. #16-volumes11-volumes + extra6-volumes
1Dawn Pt. 1Dawn Pt. 1 / Dawn Pt. 2Dawn Pt. 1 / Dawn Pt. 2 / Future
2Dawn Pt. 2FutureYamato / Space / Karma Pt. 1 / Karma Pt. 2
3FutureYamato / SpaceResurrection Pt. 1 / Resurrection Pt. 2 / Robe of Feathers / Nostalgia Pt. 1 / Nostalgia Pt. 2
4Yamato / SpaceKarma Pt. 1 / Karma Pt. 2Nostalgia Pt. 3 (?) / Civil War Pt. 1 / Civil War Pt. 2
5Karma Pt. 1Resurrection Pt. 1 / Resurrection Pt. 2Life / Strange Beings / Sun Pt. 1 / Sun Pt. 2 / Sun Pt. 3
6Karma Pt. 2Nostalgia Pt. 1 / Nostalgia Pt. 2Early Works (Egypt, Greece and Rome)
7Resurrection Pt. 1Civil War Pt. 1
8Resurrection Pt. 2 / Robe of FeathersCivil War Pt. 2 / Robe of Feathers
9Nostalgia Pt. 1Strange Beings / Life
10Nostalgia Pt. 2Sun Pt. 1
11Civil War Pt. 1Sun Pt. 2
12Civil War Pt. 2Early Works
13Life / Strange Beings
14Sun Pt. 1
15Sun Pt. 2
16Sun Pt. 3

Hope this can help people with the same doubt as I had.

You may wish to know that the English edition swaps the order of Life and Strange Beings for whatever reason.
Has Phoenix previously been released in Portuguese?

Oh thanks for the information, I will exchange that. I remember seeing it while researching but probably forgot while writing the text lol.

Afaik this is the first portuguese release from Phoenix, at least in Brazil, but I think Portugal didn’t get an edition either.

@ArtaxerxesCC
Thx for the contribution! I haven’t had the chance to buy Volume 3 yet — I’m waiting for the Festa do Livro da USP to get it at 50% off.
I’ll update the table in the first post now.

Thanks again.
Have you read this one yet? Theoretically, Nostalgia Pt. 3 doesn't exist, so I’m curious to see what JBC has done with it.
I’ve read on this site (https://tezukainenglish.com/wp/?page_id=747) that there might be an unfinished version of Nostalgia and that perhaps it's included within JBC's three parts, but I'm not sure.

Meanwhile, I’ll update the first post with your information. Later, once I get to read and compare them, I'll have a fuller picture of what's going on.

@alucinotronic
The Portuguese story appears to simply be the same Nostalgia split into more parts. The 3 parts add up to the same page count as the Viz Nostalgia volume. It can't be the unfinished prototype because that one is under 50 pages.

@alucinotronic I haven't read it yet, but here's the first page from Pt. 3 if that helps

@ArtaxerxesCC
As I suspected, the same spread is found on pages 310-311 of the English edition.
