Weird, but surprisingly good so far. Obviously way more thought went into this then you would expect.

This just comes across as creepy. Jess can read this piggy's mind, and he can't hide his thoughts from her. At least Jess doesn't appear to be a sadist unlike that lady in Dog and Scissors. In any case, this show isn't winning me over as I don't get the sense that things are going in the right direction.

She is weirdly subservient to a random pig she found. This show could go to terrible places.

I'm waiting for the show where the main character gets reincarnated as a cat.
Seems Dog,Pig,Sword and Vending Machine are how they test the water.

Episode 2

Having this pig around sure came in handy as Jess desperately needed to buy a black rista, and was nearly ripped off by that scammer. She only had 200 and that thing costs 600, so there was no way haggling was going to work as while he might have sold it to her had she paid 500, there's no way 200 was going to get it. So she instead tries to sell the pig and the pig goes full-on DDR to convince the shop owner that this pig is different. And now, the pig just needs to escape after the festival, which is going to be easier said than done, but that was some crazy gambit that the pig is taking.

I'm still enjoying this. It's weird, but so far it has more thought put into it than most isekai and fantasy shows. I can appreciate that at least.

Kind of obvious how he'll survive though.

YOu'd think if the Capital expects the Yethema to come offer themselves for whatever and very few of them are making it then they would be cracking down on these Yethema hunters....also displaying the collar of one you supposedly loved on the wall like a trophy doesn't exactly seem like the right thing to do.

@HOOfan_1 They may consider it a sort of trial just to get there. What happens in the capital stays in the capital.

Different world different values. The pig had the same kind of reaction.

Display her collar on the wall and use her bones as knife handles...that's just grim.

We really need more info on Yathema...how do they get the collars? What happens if they just cut them off? Can they breed with humans?

Yeah I'm wondering some of the same things. Are they born or are they made by putting the collars on them? And the most important question: Are they all cute girls?

That's not all -- I'm sure they have a skull cup behind the bar, use her knucklebones for buttons and had her remains in that evening's stew.

Use every part of the Yethma. Waste not want not.

Well that explains why they would put the collar up on the wall. It's a sign that the place is a welcoming to yethma since a collar can only be preserved by someone who cared about the yethma it came from. We also finally got some background info on yethma and where they come from. I suspected that they were all female.

I was confused when they said the yethma collars disintegrate when they're removed unless taken care of since they said the collars were sold. But they didn't say how long the collars take to deteriorate so I'm guessing they must survive long enough for the magic in them to somehow be harnessed/harvested.

marklebid said:

They did say that even yethma body parts were sold off by the hunters so they may hold some kind of magic in them. By the time Naught found the people that killed that other yethma she may have already been, uh, stripped for parts, so it wasn't like he was the one who chopped her up. Though, like I said before, different world, so different ideas about how they would honor dead loved ones.

Yethema can't ride in vehicles...weird rule.

NO raping a Yethma...does that mean they can't have sex at all, or just no rape..also they almost made it seem like the Yethema could be executed for being raped...but not sure if I just got that vibe wrong.

Why not make a rule against hunting them?

The entire part about the guy being a pig seems to be just a weird story telling device for the actual plot about Yethema

@HOOfan_1

Well she did say in the early episode the way some made extra money was to sell their bodies. (Or did she litterally mean sex organs like someone sells a kidney?)
Can't imagine if there are people willing to chop them up and sell their parts there aren't also guys trying to kidnapp them and pimp them out since they all seem to be pretty girls and the higher price "forbidden fruit" would command. Telling someone they can't have something just makes some people want it even more.
Gonna guess the new girl had some kind of bad experience along those lines, she WAS just wearing a sack.

Oof well that answered that question. Knew what happened to her was gonna be rough but not that rough :( This show is even darker than I imagined.
Starting to get the impression the whole story they tell these girls is just a lie to perpetuate a slave trade, if they all die at 16 all these places have to buy new girls. Plus they get to make money on a fake "magic" organ trade.
Or it's their way of keeping the only girls who are magic useres numbers low so they don't pose a threat.

I mean they crudely sewed her back up, and its not like that will kill you (hysterectomies are pretty common). I have to think they cut out more than that though, thus why she couldn't eat.

Man really a shame this has no budget, animation was really janky this episode.
How does a wolf and pig with their smell and hearing get snuck up on by guys on horses?
Also wasn't the guy who stabbed Blaise taken out by the dog/wolf?, his feet were frozen and he screamed as it attacked him? What good is it if it left him avle to fight, ehh whatever Blaise was going to die anyway.
This is making it seem likw this group is responsible for juat about all the deaths of these girls, though there would have to be more if none of them ever make it to the capitol.

Did they? I thought it looked like she just had a massive hole in her abdomen.

That weird creature with the bug eyes must have something to do with the hunters too.

Yeah the animation for this one was pretty rough. Even simple things like Blaise falling over looked awful. It's too bad a better studio didn't make this. Maybe we'll get lucky and a better studio will pick it up later like what's happened with Bookworm.

I don't think Blaise had a hole in her. I think the wound they left on her probably became infected so it got pretty nasty looking.

Maybe they came from downwind?

It looked to me like he managed to break free and run off. He still had a weapon and he had armor on too so I can understand why the dog would have been cautious.

@HOOfan_1

If you pause it last ep (or this ep) when she first shows the pig you can make out large stitches underneath the big purple bruise(?) (I think the big bloody smear was just to obscure the stiches instead of using blurring). I think the point was (as we see in the jars when they free her) she had multiple things removed and it was a hack job just enough to keep her alive until they could lure in the next victim. She could no longer eat and wasn't going to live long.

Looked up the manga and her scar is much clearer. They really changed it a lot (the pic is at an angle because he sleeps in the bed and she climbs in with him so is laying down when she reveals the scar as opposed to being outside) also the fight is much different with her sacrificing herself at the beginning to save Jess from the ninja guy (he thows a bolo with spikes and it wraps around her stabbing hee in multiple places) also the fight is much clearer with limbs and heads flying and the dog actually ripping a guys neck out.

Project 9 has 3 anime going this season

Girl and her Guard Dog has the worst animation I've seen since My Sister My Writer
Vexation of a hut-in Vampire Princes fairly decent
Butareba inconsistent at best.

@HOOfan_1

To be fair the manga of this is actually worse (besides the girls eyes no effort is made to add detail to anything) so trying to translate that into something animated can't be easy. I think this is originally a LN so not sure how well that is written either.

So the Yethema are essentially like Eldians in Attack on Titan. They are being repressed to keep from creating war in the world and in the end it is their own people repressing them.

I guess all Yethema are born in the capital, males are all aborted and females are all sold into slavery and forced to come back to the capital, presumably the king is actually encouraging Yethema hunters to kill them.

He blames humans for turning them to slaves, but seems pretty apparent he is the one selling them. He is the one who makes rules about giving them rides, having sex with them and forcing them back to the capital. So seems like the entire culture of Yethema repression and murder all comes by his orders.

It would be pretty cool if Jess and Buta could convince the King's grandson and Wyss to turn on the king and kill him.

That ending kind of reminds me of something like "The Never Ending Story" or "The Wizard of Oz". Certainly open ended, and kind of made it seem like maybe the Yethema might be freed.

Were all of those people in the capital Yethma? It wouldn't make sense that the entire population of Yethma were born to the royal family, but at the same time, they made it seem that male Yethma were all aborted. So perhaps the men are regular humans and some of the women are Yethma. I wonder if the women who aren't accepted into the royal family are forced to keep their collars though, so they can't object to their male children being aborted, and the females being sold into slavery.

This show definitely had some animation problems, and the pig design was odd. Heck the entire premise was odd to begin with, but the story was actually pretty good.

I give it an 8/10 just for defying my expectations of what it would actually be about.

Well that episode should have been titled "bread" because it was one pan after another <SMH>. Can't remember the last time I have seen so little actual animation (outside of the flashbacks). Well huh, not much of a story here though it was generally ok. Glad it didn't get perverted or echhi at least. Forgettable really, but kudos to the author for getting it made into an anime and some figures produced, probably the best he could hope for for such a (I'll be nice and call it) modest manga.
You guys are being very generous, only a 6/10 for me.
