| What twist? And what do you mean "woke 'gotcha!-moment?" You mean Tokio being a girl? that's the only "twist" I can think of, but not sure how that could possibly be interpreted as a "woke" gotcha moment. Even in the manga I wasn't sure if Tokio was a boy or girl, and I guess this moment was the reveal of that, but that's all, she's just a normal girl. But if you're curious here are some manga spoilers that may give you some insight into the school as a whole Not sure how this could be related to being "woke" but make of it what you will I guess. |

Uh, not really sure what you're getting at, but I assumed because she looked like the MC and because clearly the show was fine with gay characters. It's not that deep. And this is anime, where a lot of feminine looking characters are boys and a lot of masculine looking characters are girls. And then there's those who are gender neutral looking. Haku from Naruto, Oscar from Rose of Versailles, Rei from Dear Brother, Haruka from Sailor Moon, Corona from Soul Eater, Envy from FMA, Gowther from SDS, Kino from Kino's Journey, Dororo from Dororo, Grey from Black Clover, etc. These are all characters that are very androgynous and you can find many more. Anime has a habit of creating characters that could go either way, that do go both ways, or that are never stated. It's not that deep and no is a "conservative viewer" simply because they thought Tokio was a boy. Plenty of "liberal viewers" probably thought the same. |

I totally agree on that, the author does try to blur things until we reach a point in a story when the true situation is clarified ( ). What I was saying is that I expected many conservative viewers to imagine she was a boy just based on her haircut, not that everybody who thought so would be conservative. |
