I just want more dark romance. Anime is so oversaturated with lovey dovey happy romance. I want more gritty depressing romance stories that deal with jealousy and manipulation. Romance is not always sunshine and rainbows.

I really tried to find something like this but never did. or nothing came to this level. eventhough this is very dark, this is my fav from romance.

Yes I like these type of anime because this have potential to show us reality.
Not always our all dreams come true .
I also like Domestic Girlfriend and this show Scum Wish.

I really enjoyed Scums Wish too, one of the top of my guilty pleasure list lol. Another anime that, while it isnt great its definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, is White Album. White Album 2 is a much better anime overall (I dunno why they're titled like they're related, but they honestly have pretty much nothing to do with another other than existing in the same universe), but the original reminds me a lot more of Scums Wish, in terms of that darker romance. It's a trashy show that has a lot of shitty people doing shitty things to eachother, and sometimes that's what you wanna watch lol.

Rumbling Hearts/Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is also similar in terms of a romance that has those jealousy, manipulation etc tones to it.

Yeah, I agree with you. I enjoy this type of stories the most. I haven’t seen Rumbling Hearts though, so I’ll check it out

I don't think there's many anime like this at all, but the closest to this mood would be Welcome to the NHK, and I think this season's Bocchi the Rock, while comparatively light hearted, has some unique moments.

Well, talking about same vibes I would say Koi to Uso, it's kinda famous but I don't recommend it: the beggining is good but after it really sucks (and yeah I've read the entire manga not really knowing why). I've watched some romance animes and guess the ones that are most succeed in being good and real at the same time (as other person here asked) are the best known from Ai Yazawa: Nana and Paradise Kiss. Paradise Kiss is shorter, I prefer Nana: it's an anime/manga that a lot of men like, although it has women as public

I have watched a lot of top grade underrated dark anime. but since im lazy and don't remember the name you have to find those in my "watched" anime list. i listed every anime i watched. just find which has romance genre and find out

a darker romance i loved is say ‘i love you’. It is still a lovey dovey type romance but it deals with stuff like the consequences of bullying and manipulation and it doesn’t just sugarcoat stipulations that you go through in young love. So i’d recommend it it’s probably in my top 3 romances

White Album, the first one. It has a pretty bad reputation, but that is mostly due to the (main) character(s) being unlikable. I really loved it, I think more people should give it a try!

Maybe you could try chainsaw man if you haven't already 🤔 It's more action oriented but can get pretty serious and has some great personal character monologues during the action scenes. It definitely has some monogatari inspiration imo as well. The final fight in the CSM manga is actually inspired by the Araragi v Shinobu fight from Kizu 3

in no order:
domestic girlfriend
white album 2
rumbling hearts
school days

all are pretty mid but similar with no happy endings.

slightly different type of romance but still worth mentioning:
Clannad after story (watch Clannad season 1 first, it's kinda a 6/10 but AfterStory is a 10/10 will break your heart, most realistic portrayal of real life romance ive seen)
fruits basket (darker themes throughout but solid ending and very romance)
