Just want to know a few things
Is the manga this fast-paced as well
Does the 2000s anime do it better

And is this happening because of the same reason as yyh (the author getting told he has to wrap up the manga in x amount of chapters)

YYH had buildup to a potentially the best arc in the series, then farted in the viewer's face and just redid the tournament arc again.
I haven't read SK manga yet, but seems like it's going in the direction it always meant to (since at least mid-point) pretty firmly.
So it's nowhere as annoying for me.

The anime has much faster pacing than the manga, and the 2000’s anime ending deviates from the manga completely

Author had only 14 chapters to end the manga. so Yeah, he was under pressure unfortunately all the time, especially at the end.

Yes.
No.
Yes, probably.

To elaborate, the last arc is super fast paced in manga. Before the forced ending, it was smoother and seemed like the 2nd part would be longer and with more twists and turns but after the mangaka got only a certain amount of chapters left, he hurried to wrap it up nicely so the fights got even faster and much less brutal.

The anime of 2000 has its last arc extremely dub out of the blue and completely nonsensical. So, no, it did nothing better. It made me want to bleach my eyes out, it was so bad....

And last question, we don't know and unless the mangaka makes a statement (doubtful) we never will. But it extremely likely this is the case as the story was clearly heading into a bit of a side turn (they lost their resurrecter due to lack of Furyoku), imo, they wanted to go for a tiny side arc where someone would be transferred to hell (different flow of time so doable) to learn resurrection. But since there were only few chapters remaining, the mangaka just made the battles much smoother for our main gang than before (notice how many people died before the original ending and after). The last chapter was extremely rushed, definitely needed at least 2 chapters to properly conclude it.
