Anybody else feel like this was initially a Ghibli movie and Makoto Shinkai studios added their beautiful animations later? Because,everything,from the way the people are drawn,the supernatural yet beautiful world design,the monsters and their acidic slime blood, looks like a certified Ghibli animation

The characters design is very Ghibli. The coloring is the similar to other Shinkai works.

I felt like this movie was Shinkai trying to imitate Ghibli. I knew it wasn't one going in but it definitely feels like it.

I still love the film overall though, and it's a nice departure of being about loss rather than being another Shinkai romance

I concur. There’s like. An uncomfortable similarity to certain shots from previous Miyazaki films like Princess Mononoke and Laputa. Low key feels like plagiarism. In isolation it’s average but in context it’s dreadful. Viewed purely aesthetically it’s a very pleasing series of images.

had the feeling this movie tried to recycle every ghibli movie possible. Shin = Ashitaka, the monsters trying to eat them = ape tribe in Mononoke Hime, the fall with the stone = Laputa, the little "cat" = Nausicäa etc

also I didn't like the Characters, they changed their mind like in a split second, no development.
they tried really hard to make the viewer "feel" for the Charakter without giving anything to connect. It was beautifully animated but that's it.
