@Zarutaku No need to be a "high-end watcher", it's enough to just watch any pixar/disney medium in 4k and then anime in 1080p on the same TV screen. I re-watched Arcane in 4k some time ago, and it looked so much more sharp and vivid compared to 1080p Frieren, even despite of exceptional production quality of the latter one. I'm not saying it's a must have, I'm saying it's nice to have, cuz why not?
@LoveYourSmile That's not surprising because western high-end animation tends to have much higher level of detail than any Anime, so 4k pays off a lot. There may be a few high-end Anime were it also pays off, especially movies, but for average quality Anime I don't consider it necessary, unless the distance to the TV is too close.

Simple explanation to give you some perspective. Have you ever tried watching something that was in 240p or even 288p then try to watch it on a modern 45" TV or bigger? Basically it look like crap because they weren't meant to be viewed on such modern technology to begin with (CRT use to be a norm before anything above 480p existed). I sometimes will downgrade when watching Anime that I own on Laserdisc on a smaller CRT TV monitor than my usual 65" 4k TVs where I have several of them around my house (which Anime on Laserdisc is usually native to average around 360p). Anything below 480p looks like total shit on modern 65" 4k TV monitors. I specifically have an old 45" CRT TV I use when I want to watch Anime I own on physical copies below 480p.

Someone with a large enough modern TV monitors ranging from 65" and upwards usually notices the huge visual difference in the quality between 1080p and 4k where one would automatically choose 4k over 1080p any day of the week if it was actually available. Though, really one would need a 75" to even a 98" TV monitor to really enjoy 8k. But like I said earlier really to appreciate something like 4k or even 8k one would actually have to have the hardware that supports it to begin with otherwise watching Anime in 4k or even 8k on a TV that only supports 1080p will just look like you are watching Anime at 1080p no matter how big of a monitor you own.

I wouldn't mind it existing, but I don't see what difference would it make

Higher res than 1080p for anime only makes sense if there's lots of detailed backgrounds. Otherwise there's no point, as 1080p is already smooth enough.

maybe? i think having HD anime would be really nice, like in the 1080p format but i dont know if anime in 4k or 8k would actually look "smooth" or "clear". like some other comments, having higher framerate would be awesome to see since higher framerates make anime look so much better than what is currently available.

720p and 1080p is definitely good, more than that the difference is not that significant.
So for me, there is no point that we need 4K or 8K resolution.

For all those who are content with 720p and 1080p. I remember when 720p was being 1st introduced in the late 90s early 2000s. I didn't see the big point to it because When watching a DVD released in 720p, there simply wasn't that really big of a difference between 480p and 720p when watching it on the specific TV I actually owned at the time (because it technically didn't support 720p). Then in the mid 2000s when I bought my 1st 32" wide screen TV that supported 720p I then suddenly noticed the huge difference in the resolution between 480p and 720p and at that time I thought 1080p was pretty much pointless because 720p look pretty good as is. Then when I finally was able to buy my 1st wide screen TV larger than 45" that actually supported 1080p I suddenly clearly noticed the difference between 720p and 1080p.

Now skipping to when 1080p became the standard around 2014 right around the time period when 4k was 1st introduced, not very many people thought 4k was that impressive (I certainly didn't at the time). Wasn't until I actually bought a bunch of TVs large enough that supported 4k to really notice the huge difference between 1080p and 4k.

I certainly can even tell the huge difference between 1080p and 4k on even a cheap 50" TCL smart TV that supports 4k even at local retail stores and one can actually buy them now at extremely affordable cost around an average of $250 where I currently live.

Give it another few years and likely just like the past, views on 4k will suddenly shift just like they did with 1080p when 4k becomes the new standard resolution someday.

If I can actually notice anything, sure. I don't think most anime are detailed enough to justify 4k.
