Can I watch this movie even I know nothing about the series?

Title says. I want to watch this movie because it's directed by Miyazaki and reviews are good, however I absolutely know nothing about Lupin series.

If I need to know something like a background story beforehand, what is it?

You can watch any Lupin movie/special as standalone but I would really suggest trying the part 1 first if you want to wholeheartedly enjoy this movie.

Thanks. So protagonist is a thief, that'll be enough for me right?

Also part 1 means this series? I'll watch it if I can find a decent version.

Yup thats the classic part 1 show.

By the way I watched the movie and I think you are right. Even though movie is good on it's own and there is no need to be familiar with the series, I'd enjoy it more if I know the characters beforehand, especially the side characters like Fujiko, Goemon, Kouichi. Their interactions would be more meaningful for me.
