of how anime is starved for real writers, and it takes a direct translation of a live action to get proper writing in anime.

Anime just doesn't pay enough for writers. All the good ones are doing live action and visual novels :/

Basically it's like this:

-Tier 1: Visual Novel - basically every serious VN is a passion project
-Tier 2: Live action - this is where writers get paid, and that's where they go for careers
-Tier 3: Manga - some manga are passion projects
-Tier 4: Anime - if anything's good here, it'll be something that trickles down from above, barring minor miracles.

The live action was based on a novel. This anime did come after the live action adaptation, but I would assume it is also based on the novel.
