After reading chapter 32 , I kept on wondering what kind of sickness does Kaori have? given the fact that she already give some hints. (sensory deprivation)

or probably a sickness without cure?

my speculation or the disease she have was the popular nowadays...

the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Disease from the famous Ice Bucket Challenge...

more info about ALS here

how about yours??

Perhaps a form of terminal cancer. Reminded me of the story of the high school boy who wrote a song for his gf before dying. http://www.twincities.com/ci_22148785/lakeland-teenager-rare-cancer-saying-goodbye-through-song

I doubt it's ALS. ALS is characterized by PROGRESSIVE neuron degeneration over years. Kaori couldn't have hidden her disease like that, played violin that skillfully and then suddenly collapse and lose control of her legs. But then again, its a fictional story so the author could just have made however she wanted to fit the story.

Kaori suffers from Tragishojo Animitis, a disease that weakens and often kills heroines in Shojo animes.

Symtoms include Paralysis, cardiovascular arrest, and sudden death, often in snow or cherry blossoms.

There is no cure.

Other well-known cases are that of Nagisa Furakawa, Ushio Okazaki, Misuzo Kamio, Makoto Sawatari, and Shiori Misaka, and Tachibana Kanade.

It does not affect men and boys.

Tragishojo Animitis doesn't explain the bad eye sight though.

Based on my research it was likely MELAS syndrome. It's a rare metabolic disorder the cause of which is unknown.

Why do I think it was MEALS?

MEALS is 100% Fatal

MEALS has no known cure

Symptoms vary widely but there are a few trademarks which Kaori exhibited. Episodes of temporary paralysis being the biggest one. It also explains her fatigue. It causes seizures but of the partial variety, the kind where you remain conscious but may feel sick to the stomach or dizzy, however like all seizures once they end your energy level takes a nose-dive, this appears to have occurred on at least 2 occasions (when Kosei was about to perform and Kaori who seemed perfectly calm an instant before looked about ready to throw up) and when she passed out at home and hit her head.
The disease is progressive but there are a number of supplements and medications that have been used to slow it down. (which explains the number of different medications in her bag)
At it's heart MEALS is a brain disorder, one that's also characterized by abnormal patterns of thought and behavior which also explains some of Kaori's antics.

Now, I haven't read the manga but in the anime it's suggested that Kouri and Koesie's mother died of the same illness which brings me to another reason this fits.

MEALS can develop at any point between the ages of 4 and 40. Kosei's mom got it later in life after she'd already gotten married and had a child, while Kaori developed it in as a little girl.

MEALS is a slow death, the downward spiral speeds up as the disease progresses but it makes absolute sense with the timeline given for both possible sufferers in this series.

MEALS patients have the same genetic abnormalities but what isn't known is whether these are spontaneous mutations or whether they're hereditary.

Mostly illness that took Kaori - aplastic anemia, Everything that presented in symptoms, her own statement "I've always been a bit anemic", MDS cornordity (Musculature Dystrophy Syndrome}, and the fact she died so young fits all the diagnostic criteria. The "last resort" surgery was likely bone marrow transplant from a non-relative and immunosuppressant drugs, that likely triggered a massive, multiple organ failure on the table. An AA, if drug treatment fails and lack of a relative bone marrow transplant, has an 85% mortality in five years. In her own description of her illness, anemia, constant hospitalizations confirm the differential diagnosis. So, put an end to this speculation, I offer the most likely reason for her death. It's also a very Japanese plot line, seen in literature, magna, and other animas.

I also think it was ALS.

"Early signs and symptoms of ALS include:
Difficulty walking or doing your normal daily activities.
Tripping and falling.
Weakness in your leg, feet or ankles.
Hand weakness or clumsiness."

All of these were signs in the anime.
Kaori was always having trouble walking which included tripping and falling.
When she was at the Hospital it was obvious she couldn't control her legs when she fell 'Weakness in your leg, feet or ankles.
ALS is a muscle disease, meaning doing everyday things from walking to eating would be hard. We saw how pale she got which could have been a result in lack of eating, your tongue is a muscle therefore connecting it with ALS. When Kousei and Watari were going to visit her at the hospital she couldn't talk/breath, your lungs are muscles, again, connecting it to ALS.

Kaori was sick with Friedreich's Ataxia. The onset of F.A is between ages of 5-18 so that puts Kaori right SPLAT in the age gap. One of the symptoms of FA and what Kaori had, is a loss of coordination in arms and legs. It affects the nervous system and my previous statement is why Kaori collapsed in the hospital and why she couldn't hold her bow properly. People who are affected usually used wheelchairs from a time span of 5-10 years after symptoms start appearing which would also make sense for Kaori. She also went into cardiac arrest. Friedreich's Ataxia can make you have heart disease which is a reasonable explanation for why Kaori when into cardiac arrest. Both of Kaori's parents must've been carriers of FA but which the disease had not manifested/affected them. Since assuming they both are carriers, it would perfectly explain why Kaori has FA. "BUT KAORI'S PALE SKIN, LOOK LOOK" Yes. She can be ill with Friedreich's Ataxia and she can be anemic as well. So far, this diagnosis is the best possible diagnosis for Kaori. Sorry everyone who thought they had a reasonable explanation. It's not ALS, and it's not the anemia that killed her.
