Remove the shoujo-ai tag

Information

We hope the 'shoujo-ai'(little girl love, pedophilia) tag gets removed due its incorrect usage on MAL.

The problem is that shoujo-ai is used on MAL for 'light yuri', when in fact that word refers to love for little girls and/or paedophilia. You can check its wikipedia page for more info. In other words, it's outdated. Other people tried to get it removed, but it seems the staff doesn't care. So maybe they would if they saw that enough people did care about it.

As I said, all the time I spent in Japan when I encountered the word Shoujo-AI it means girl pedophiia. And I have Japanese people telling me that my understanding of the word is correct - that it is never understood as love between young women in Japan now.

Hey guys, I just thought I would try to clear some of the air here.

The term "shoujo-ai" (少女愛), directly translates to girl love. The word "shoujo" in Japan is generally used to describe all young women, not specifically little ones. In fact, they use a different word for little girls, "onnanoko" (女の子), which literally means female child. An attraction to young girls, ie pedophilia (although in this case strictly towards girls), is called, "lolikon" (ロリコン), which is short for the English phrase "lolita complex". In all my time spent absorbing Japanese media in its many forms, I've never come across a case where "shoujo-ai" was used to label pedophilia. It's a term used to describe love between girls, regardless of age. Over the years, the word "yuri" has become synonymous with "shoujo-ai". The word "yuri" itself is really just slang (not to mention a pretty common name in Japan).

I hope that helps. I'm all for using the right terms/phrases, and I'm glad you guys aren't apathetic about correct usage. But in this case, I think those words are right where they should be.

This is plainly WRONG!! They do know what it means, and it is not homosexual love between girls. What you said is just trying to muddy the waters even more by saying everything is ambiguous, but what is clear is that some meaning is more correct and accepted than other meanings. If what you say is true, then why can't we use Shoujo-ai to mean, say, little girl's love for things she loves? Your argument is pretty stupid here, which is something you cannot get away by saying Japanese can be stupid because you clearly sound a lot stupider than people who can talk senses.

Maybe it won't be removed, but this is why we come together to fight for its removal. And the same goes for other misused genres. If nobody mentions the problem, people at the top will just get complacent and think everything is alright. Even if they do nothing after we raise the objection, at least they can't say everyone is fine with it and thus no problem exists.

No, we do know. Because these are facts. And you're just looking for excuses (Very poorly thought out excuses at that) to deny said facts.

Of course you with no knowledge of the language knows better than someone who has lived in Japan their entire life.

They do know that 'shoujo-ai' is associated with paedophilia though. That's already been established
