A rich ladykiller who repeatedly helps Hana. He goes by Umenosuke in Yoshiwara but soon tells Hana his real name is Rennosuke.
His marriage to Takitsuki is arranged when they were young. He did not like her at all but he obediently played the role expected of him, smiling and flattering them. Takitsuki saw through him almost immediately and continued to oppose the match. Rennosuke, surprised by this, began to like her and look forward to life with her. When she developed feelings for Kiyomasa instead he did not worry, because he was confident their social statuses would keep them apart and he would still get her in the end.
