Winter 2024 was just as crazy as last season in terms of the number of anime I was interested in picking up.

A lot of them were either pretty bad, generic, or just unsuited to my tastes though. This season had many more shows that I quickly lost the motivation to continue watching than the last. I was pretty comfortable keeping up with a handful of shows and leaving the rest on semi-indefinite hold.

But it feels like a pity to drop the ones that are just a tad too boring, so I'll leave them on probation here and probably update this list, if and when I get to them.

1/12 - Oroka na Tenshi wa Akuma to Odoru
The first episode quickly reminded me how annoying this was to read as a manga. Same reason I dislike Gabriel Dropout.
I might not have minded watching more of this anyway for nostalgia, if not for the lacking art style and polish.

1/12 - Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita 2nd
The new character and implied theme of the story arc seems chuunibyou-ish from my first impressions and assumptions.
Seems relaxed and boring aside from said new character.
I don't have reason to give it a chance.

In Fall 2023, I started a "Watching This Season" list on my MAL profile page, where I ranked my excitement/enjoyment for each series, and updated it frequently throughout the season.

Since the season has ended, I'll have to take the list off my profile page. But rather than removing it outright, I thought I'd touch it up and migrate it to a blog post on here instead, for proper closure from the stacked season we had.

I still have a bunch of shows on backlog too, anyway. So I'll probably also update this list, if and when I get to them.

Side note:
Any of my reviews and comments are in my anime list as comments, or have been posted as reviews.
This is just a chronicle of my personal ranking of how much I was enjoying each anime throughout the season.

9.0 - Migi to Dali
Only got around to finishing this long after the season ended.
I sat on this one for quite a while, frankly because the art style wasn't what I'm used to.
Also, I didn't know what to expect other than some absurdly dumb comedy and wholesomeness that came off a bit too strong.
But it actually got really good from episode 4 or 5 onwards, and once the momentum kicks in it never looks back. I couldn't help but binge it in one go after that.

8.9 - Tearmoon Teikoku Monogatari: Dantoudai kara Hajimaru, Hime no Tensei Gyakuten Story
Started a bit late with low expectations. Started decent, and got more exciting each week.
Floated around the top somewhere during the second half, once it got past the manga material I had read.

8.6 - Buta no Liver wa Kanetsu Shiro
Almost dropped on Ep 1 for obvious reasons.
Resumed near end of Fall 2023. Binged till latest in one go. Really really good.

8.6 - Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! 2nd Season
Started well but not amazing.
Got better after the first arc, sometimes topping the list, but usually losing the spot to 16bit:AL, Shangri-La Frontier, or Tearmoon.
Quite consistently near the top.

8.4 - Dr. Stone: New World Part 2
Consistently good to great.

7.5 - Potion-danomi de Ikinobimasu!
Consistently decent.

7.4 - 16bit Sensation: Another Layer
Topped the list, until it fell off mid-season.
Recuperated slightly near the end.

7.4 - Toaru Ossan no VRMMO Katsudouki
Had a rocky start. After that, was usually decent or half-decent.

7.1 - Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou.
Fell off quick, but had a couple good episodes in the middle.

7.1 - Kanojo mo Kanojo Season 2
Started decent, but fell off quick and stayed down. The last few episodes were great.

7.0 - Kikansha no Mahou wa Tokubetsu desu
Had a bad to decent start, and didn't watch the rest until it almost finished airing.
Binged upon resuming because the middle portion was really good.

6.8 - Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon
Started weak, got decent in the middle but went back down gently.

4.7 - Boushoku no Berserk
Started as a favorite, but fell off just as instantly.
Shameful to say, it got low-key enjoyable in the middle to end.

Started off weak, but got moderately decent several episodes in.
Honestly not too fond of this adaptation.

10/(13)24 - Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su (Rollover to Winter 2024)
Topped or near-topped the list initially, but fell off quite badly after a handful of amazing episodes.
Been stocking up episodes for a few weeks, to avoid getting disappointed repeatedly each week. Hope it gets interesting again.

3/(13)24 - Undead Unluck (Rollover to Winter 2024)
Looks promising, but stopped watching after starting too many other shows.
Didn't get to it because I don't have much urge to watch action shonen like these.
Still planning to continue this of course.

3/(16)28 - Sousou no Frieren (Rollover to Winter 2024)
Started as one of the least anticipated shows. Not bad, but just underwhelmingly boring.
Had trouble continuing it because almost every other show this season excited me more, and I had started too many shows as well.
'Sad' is a genre I need to be in the mood for to watch, too.
So this ended up being lowest priority among things I'm not planning to drop.

Not really interested in this particular generic one-dimensional setup of one-dimensional characters.

1/13 - Boukensha ni Naritai to Miyako ni Deteitta Musume ga S-Rank ni Natteta
Protagonist's unique stance of voluntarily choosing to be a submissive wageslave, and letting the world rob her clean of her freewill despite wielding overwhelming power, makes no sense to me. Her common sense is so painfully illogical to me, I feel like gagging watching this.

Also, it kept slipping my mind that Spy x Family Season 2 exists. It's not exactly left out on purpose, I do want to watch it... Some time...
