Anime Relations: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Usagi Drop

I marathonned Usagi Drop last week, because the license at Crunchyroll ended tonight. I had meant to watch it, because the idea of a show about a grown man who was not in any kind of mortal danger intrigued me. Wow, that show was a joy. Daikichi is the most levelheaded father I've seen in an anime. I liked the duo of Daikichi and Rin, and their relationship with Kouki(and his mother) was fun to watch too. It was just cute enough not to be annoying. It was just realistic enough without being bummer. It actually starts out kind of sad and becomes upbeat as it goes. Even for a childfree cynical asshole like me, this was a very enjoyable show. Most of the shows I watch are edge of your seat suspenseful, so this was refreshing and I finished it in two days.



then I watched another arc of Higurashi over the weekend. I started this a couple weeks ago. It's reminded me of Clue a lot of the time, but I thought this arc was more like a Twilight Zone episode. The way they have you thinking "well, this happened" . . .and then you come to find out it didn't happen at all, and it was actually something else completely. Another thing I liked about this arc was certain characters being less grating than usual. Sometimes, Rena is a bit hard to take. The main reason I still like Another better than Higurashi is the tone is more consistent. That said, I still find Higurashi scarier. Part of that has to do with the crazy eyes. Higurashi doesn't have the best quality animation, but they make up for that with facial expressions. Sure, it didn't invent anime crazy eyes, but Studio Deen has made them that much more unnerving. I don't suggest searching mumblr for anything Higurashi related after 7pm, it might fuck your shit up.

I'm a week behind, I gotta get back on this show. . . .especially since there's an OVA (or at least, that's what people are assuming it is right now. We STILL don't know) coming in the Spring.

It's a polarizing show, that from what I have read and been told about it has far more than meets the eye to it.


I want to see if it gets the kind of reaction out of me that it gets out of everyone else, because I am so bloody cynical I expect to find it completely funny.`


Form what everyone says, this is about a bunch of dumb girls who fawn over a jerk (and then things get fucked up)

HILARIOUS.

Anime Relations: Baccano!, Baccano! Specials

I just finished Baccano! AKA Isaac and Miria Up In Smoke (and started the OVAs. dude, FUNIMATION RELEASD THE 3 OVA SPECIALS ALONG WITH THE SERIES ON YOUTUBE!! I fucking WISH FUNimation would have picked up Durarara!)

. . .and, okay, okay, okay, you guys are right. Baccano! IS in fact better than Durarara! Personally, I still rate them both 10s.

I think both of them were too much fun to end when they did. Baccano! could have been AT LEAST two seasons. . . but it is based on a book, and if the entire thing was covered (it probably was) there's no reason to do anymore. . . .

That's just how it works. The ones that leave you wanting more, are usually just as long as they need to be (wussup Jormungand). The ones that make you say "okay, okay, stop already" come from Shonen Jump.

I can barely pick a favorite character but Isaac and Miria are the shit. Ladd is the shit. Claire Stanfield is the shit.

There's so much going on, it's not necessarily in chronological order, and not a second of it is boring. It's just bloody enough, it's just funny enough, it's got just enough action, and I can't really compare these characters to too many others (other than Chane being kinda like Shiki Ryougi from Kara no Kyoukai. . but that's just because she doesn't talk and WILL CUT YOU BITCH!). Even the whiniest character(Jacuzzi) in the show, has BRASS ONES.

The hype is real, folks. Adult Swim/Toonami need to just pick this one up.
