First of all I'd like to say that I am also big fan of web games, so I decided to write about some games that I play or played. I am playing browser games more than 5 years. So let's start !
1) NukeZone (http://www.nukezone.nu/) - is a strategic text-based game with over 35,000 players. This game is very addictive and interesting. You can train 4 different units (sea units, infantries, vehicles and air units), missiles (nuclear, chemical, etc.) and even satellites. Buildings are essential to survive, because if you don't have any building left you die, but enough about that, because you can find it all in manual. I loved this game and played it more than 2 years, but I had to quite, because I had to study and get ready for exams. Once you played in a good clan with serious players you can never play for fun again. It's really hard to achieve something in this game. If you want to be active you must make attacks every 6hours, so good players usually wake up at night. One round lasts 3 months (I'm not sure now), so it also needs alot of energy.
2) DefCon5 (http://www.df5.org/) - this game is very similar to the NukeZone, but it is a bit easier and simplier and you don't need so much tactics. The community is small, but also friendly and most of them are old players who know each other well. I keep my account and sometimes log in to check how is everybody.
3) Omerta Mafia (http://fast.omertamafia.com/) - it's text-based mafia simulator and it has something. You start as a newbie and rank up to Godfather. You can try to be a hitman, but it cost you money and you also fail to kill people, because if you kill someone you are dead ! Then you have to start over again. That's why I don't play it anymore. Maybe one day I'll comeback, but it needs alot of time to become feared mafioso. This game is created by lithuanian, so most of the players are from lithuania. I think it's the best lithuanian text-based game.
4) The Crims (http://www.thecrims.com/) - the game about criminals. I tried it and played one round, but I didn't like it. Boring grinding, boring rising killins skill. Anyway, it's only my opinion.
5) Travian (http://www.travian.com/) - I am newbie in this game, but already I can say that it's interesting, balansed and quite difficult. There are 3 races or clans - romans, gauls & teutons. You are responsible for you village, you build houses, farms and army. What I like about this game that communication and relationship with other players are very important. If you are not in an alliance, other villages will attack you for sure.
6) Hattrick (http://www.hattrick.org/) - Currently the best game for me. I love it !! You are a manager of a football (not soccer !!) team and you own it. Buy players, expand your arena, set tactics for matches and etc. I am playing for other than year, but it's still very interesting for me and still have A LOT to learn. If you like competing, thinking about tactics, watching and predicting economics - this game is for you.
7) B.O.T.S ][ (http://www.bots2.net/) - "This free addictive text-only
semi-real-time web-based robot-managing fighting game..." and it's true. It has some boring parts, but I like it. You build a bot, start training or fighting other bots, gain xp, buy new equipment, get a clan, start clan scoring. Every month there are tourneys. It's simple and fun, not much of thinking.
8) RuneScape (http://www.runescape.com/) - "There are currently 159081 people playing!" Ech, I tried to understand this MMORPG, but every time I tried it I could finish tutorial. It is disgusting for me, and boring and silly. Why play this if you can play WoW or L2 ?? Judge me...
9) AdventureQuest (http://www.battleon.com/) - this one is different from RuneScape, because it's flash based, but it is same boring shit for me...
These are the games that I tried and this is only my opinion. If you like to share your thoughts with me please do so. I am not advertising these games, just I wanted to explain about them. I hope you enjoyed reading !

10) Battlemaster (http://www.battlemaster.org/) - is set in a world not unlike medieval Europe. Each player plays one or more nobles from the same family. From when you start the game you're part of a country with other nobles who are on your side and happy to give advice. Everyone starts leading a unit of soldiers and the main activity is warfare between countries.
If you want to play a simple game, you can just follow orders and fight. But there's a lot of politics and diplomacy there to get involved in too, if you want to. Nobles can become traders, politicians, mentors for new nobles, assassins or wandering priests - you can even start a rebellion and take over if you think you can get enough support. There are different islands which have special playing styles (constant warfare, roleplaying-heavy, slower play) as well. New features are gradually being added to the game over time, as well.
The best thing about Battlemaster is the interaction between players. As such, it suits people who want a social game. The toughest thing is learning to play if you don't have the confidence to ask for advice - but if you do, you'll find people are very helpful.
