My currently watching list has gone berserk (relative to my previous habit of 1/2 anime at a time) so this one is going to be longer than usual.
Summary is as follows... (drumroll)
Code Geass (Gayass?) R2. (Currently at 4/25)
Well, everyones favourite douchebag is back with his one eyed hypnotism tricks. So now Lelouch has his memory back, is playing with the head of his new Geass using pretend brother.
What a way to extend a product, instead of killing him, Kawazaki Suzuki, no, wait, that's not it... Kururugi Suzaku captures him and hands him over to daddy for a brainwashing. Well, what are friends for?
While I remain unimpressed when the latter part of the first season, and understand fully that the cash cow is being milked... I still find myself watching, because lets face it, the limp wristed prick is pretty entertaining.
D.Gray-Man (Currently at 54/Unknown)
Holy popsicle penetration this series is packing in the filler. I'm not sure whether I continue to watch it because I like it, or because I like Lenalee, but whichever it is, I will keep on trucking through this one.
I'm sure something important will happen sooner or later (Sorry but I dont consider appeared in 2 episodes Suman turning into a giant white headless cripple with a halo to be important, but in fact just bizarre) and when that important something happens, it'll be super.
Even if its not super, I'll just gawk at Lenalee for the duration and I'll think it was super afterwards anyway.
Gungrave (Currently at 9/26)
Gungrave is something I've seen most of before, a long time ago, at a friends house. The end result being I didn't see the end result, as I headed home before we got that far... So, I'm watching it again from the start.
Or I was. Until my darling housemate borrowed the USB cable that connects my External HD to my PC (and happens to contain some 370gb of anime).
What I know about Gungrave from what I've seen, previously and this time around, is that it's pretty damn cool. It's nothing exceptionally original or genius, but it takes a bunch of ingredients we know well, and makes them into something appreciable.
Hellsing Ultimate (Currently at 4/Unknown)
Thankyou for your hard work, gentlemen
Pretty sexy OVA. I thoroughly enjoyed the TV version of Hellsing, and so I'm loving the OVA. I didn't think it was up to the hype after the first couple of episodes, but I've really enjoyed 3 and 4. (Maybe it just needed more Nazis before, who knows...)
That is the mark of a great anime, enjoyment. It can be as clever and artsy as you can make it, but if it doesn't entertain, then do not want.
And that's all I've got to say 'bout that.
Lucky Star (Currently at 21/24)
Also on my poor, poor hard drive.
Lucky Star is awesome but due to the lack of a consistent plot I find myself unable to watch more than a couple of episodes at a time.
That said, if I dont laugh at least a couple of times during the episode, I crack up at the idiot on the credits, so I'm calling this one a keeper.
Mnemosyne (Currently at 3/6)
Another good episode of Mnemosyne, if a little bewildering to begin with. The age changes were unexpected, but a good portrayal of the difference between the girls and normal people.
Ah, and Mimi got naked. You dont see anything, but that was pretty cool.
Mnemosyne killed off its first important character in episode 3, but he got to nibble on that supposed to already be dead sadist before he kicked it, and ofc did him some Rin rescuing.
All I can say about Mnemosyne is I want moarrrr. I want to know where it's going, and if there's a wizard of oz at the end of this yellow brick road of casual nudity, sexual payment and brutality.
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny (Currently at 44/50)
So close to finishing this one, and one thing has hung over it the entire series.
Shinn Asuka is a tosser. Yes, I said it. He needs to stop being a fucking emo over his sister getting gundammed. He's an arrogant little sod and seriously needs to get knocked down a few pegs.
Sort him out Kira, for the love of gundam.
Moyashimon (Currently at 2/11)
Moyashimon is also on my external, so I've not gotten far. It's original, it's clever, and I like it.
Happy joy rainbows.
Shakugan no Shana II (Currently at 7/24)
Both Shana series were targetted at a younger male audience, and despite this being painfully obvious to me at every turn, I find it very easy to piledrive my way through, in this case, 7 episodes in one sitting (When I should have been sleeping).
It's nothing new, infact it's practically cliché, but I find it entertaining nonetheless, and for the life of me I cant put my finger on why.
Ah well, I'll continue watching it, that's for sure.
Spice and Wolf (Currently at 5/13)
I watched a few more episodes of this to take a break from cycling between Gundam SD and D.Gray-Man, and I'm pleased I did.
While I'm still awaiting the mysterious 7th episode, and will not watch past episode 6 until it arrives... I like this series. I'd go into more detail, but its almost 8am and I've not slept yet ( and as such please forgive me if I've babbled about utter shit for this entire blog post).
So there you have it, another round of me yapping about what I think of what I'm watching. If the next post is soon, I'll be able to be a bit more specific in regards to current episodes and so on, but eh, I'm sure none of you lot care a great deal anyway... ;)
Okay, so I managed to find time for another blog entry inbetween ... stuff.
This week has been an interesting one! ...No, hang on, all I did was work, eat, sleep and play call of duty 4 at ridiculous times in the morning, so that's a pretty standard week, really.
Remember I said I'd watch Gundam Seed and see if my brain dripped out my ears? Well, I finished Gundam Seed with brain intact, and I have to say I was quite entertained.
Okay, breakdown is as follows! There'll be spoilers.
Beck (Currently at 21/26)
What can I say? Continued awesomesauce. Koyuki is a bit of an idiot sometimes, and needs to smack that blonde guy in the mouth for being such a huge raging fag, but aside from his so far inability to do so, this series goes from strength to strength. It's set for a 9 from me, so far.
Mnemosyne (Currently at 2/6)
Episode 2 was less in your face than the first one, and let you in on a little bit more of what's going on. It introduced Apos, little blonde scumbag that he is, provided lesbian antics and even gave a rather disturbing sillhouette shot that even made me cringe (You know the part I mean).
Spice & Wolf (Currently at 1/13)
Sorry, no progress, I still want to wait for Ep7 to be released before I start hitting this up, so I don't end up watching Ep7 a month after finishing Ep13.
Genshiken 2 (Currently at 1/12)
No progress :<
Gundam Seed (Currently at 50/50)
Gundam Seed is something I started watching without expecting too much from it, was pleasantly surprised, horribly addicted, and 6 days later, despite work, sleep and other distractions have finished watching.
This series took a dive into the deep end of human ambition, and questioned whether the line should be drawn, and provided a scenario, albeit farfetched, for a society long post genetic manipulation.
While the meat of the series IS farfetched, that a war would break out over jealousy and opposition to admittedly questionable scientific practices and such a level of segregation is impossible with the global society on this planet (no way in hell would the entire world unite into an alliance of "Earth Forces" to fight against genetically manipulated humans just because they're genetically manipulated), some of what the series challenges is less far fetched.
By that I mean, the emotional rollercoaster that war brings, victory, pressure, loss, and so on, and the "what if" of superweapon warfare.
Anyway, I went and tabbed out, completely forgot what I was talking about and now I'm stuck here. So! G'bye.
I've been on MAL for a number of months now and I've never actually used the blog function, so I decided to take it for a ride and see where the hell I end up.
For the sake of having something worth writing, I'm going to post a bunch of wild opinions about the anime I'm watching right now, which are Beck, Mnemosyne, Spice & Wolf and Genshiken 2. Yes idiots, that means if you haven't seen as much of these as I have, you probably shouldn't read too much.
Beck (Currently at 17/26)
This anime, for lack of a better description, is f*cking brilliant. A teenage boy gets involved with music and tries to balance it with along with studies, girls and life in general. It's all pulled off exceptionally well and I don't have a bad thing to say about this series right now.
Ah well, there's time yet.
Mnemosyne (Currently at 1/6)
First episode of this OVA was pretty in your face as far as anime goes, what with the "piercing scene", severed limbs, zombies and a bucket of casual nudity to top it off.
For the most part it was entertaining, and if the rest of the series adds some depth rather than just piling in as much brutality as possible into the 6 episodes, then it should make for a good series. Here's hoping.
Anyway, excessive brutal violence, casual nudity, humour. Hard to go wrong, right? The only thing about the first episode I didn't like, was the comic book villain-esque crying-for-mummy the sadistic "doctor" did before meeting up with her old friends nom, nom and brains.
Spice & Wolf (Currently at 1/13)
I should have watched more of this by now, but well, with episode 7 being DVD only I can't bring myself to either watch upto 6, stop and wait, or skip the episode. I thought the first episode wasn't bad, and the series certainly has potential, but I wasn't awe-struck.
Hopefully it'll get better, I imagine the first episode is just scratching the surface, but I can't be sure yet.
Genshiken 2 (Currently at 1/12)
They changed the animation! Alarm bells.
Fortunately the new animation, while different, isn't bad. I do prefer the previous style, but what can you do eh? Ultimately it's still Genshiken, and if it's anything like the first series will be a good laugh from start to finish. The first episode wasn't bad, the new character seems to be a little bit irritating, and her hair is retarded, but I'm sure I'll get over it.
Now, I'm going to try watching Gundam Seed and find out without it's mind numbing enough to cause my brain to drip out of my ears, and if so, I'll be sure to find out whether grey matter stains.
I guess that's it. Tune in next week for the thrilling conclusion, when we'll be answering questions such as, is Chris really Canadian, is Xjellocross really made of jello, and is windy really w.. actually, we won't be investigating that.
Disclaimer: I probably won't bother with any of the above next week.
