Anime Relations: Noir
People run away from old series like it's the plague. Why is it?

When I say old I mean older than 3~5. People only follow the recent animes seasons. They like to keep up to date and being able to discuss the current stuff with others. I mean, everything else is ancient history, so uncool, so why even bother?

Well, it's true I also avoid very old shows. I frown to everything older than the 90s, and only give it a shot if the story seems very promising. But I can give a reason for my aversion for this very old series: they usually lack quality, not only on the art department but also the stories are too childish and silly (it was a period when the focus target was 99.9% on children).

However, as I discussed on a previous blog entry, I consider the 1998~2007 period to be the best period for anime and manga. Unfortunately, people just miss out the joy because they don't even want to try a series from 10 years ago.

Really, if you ever need a recommendation for older series, leave me a comment. I'll take a look at your list to try to identify the genres you like and recommend you something.

Anime Relations: NieA Under 7, K-On!
It's easier for me to like characters from late 90s/early 00s shows, than it is nowadays.

Generally speaking, character designers currently aim to make their characters very moe, to the point they are obviously forcing it. And it backfires.

True that back then, they also intended to make characters appealingly cute, so wheres the difference? Hard to tell. I liked how anime looked 10 years ago, maybe because it was more handmade than now. Todays everything is heavily done using the PC, so that passionate feeling that authors put on their creations is now lost.

Today, those characters all seem too generic to me. We only used to see these generic female/male characters typically in animes based on hentai games, but now they are everywhere. They seems to be made based on templates (the twin-tail blond, the council president with long black hair...). The hairstyles have became funny looking (not cute), usually there's way too much hair volume, too much color and brightness and sometimes too much gradient color. The eyes are also too sparkling sometimes. They mess up with mouths, even making them look rotated (smaller horizontally), it was kind of fun to see it on Minami-ke, but not anymore.

Truth to be told, I think the colors are too bright now, I liked the plainer tones from the older days. Also, back then, usually each character had a strong personality and a characteristic look. Characters were cute and behaved cutely, that was the true moe! Now they try to be cute by doing funny faces and doing (not-so-)cute things, and end up being more annoying than moe.

Not to say that there are not good characters now, but personally they are harder to find.

How about you guys? I'm sure the young ones must prefer the current art style, and must find older anime art too be plain, ugly and dusty, am I right?

(oh no, BBCode is disabled...)

The current Japanese trend to give long title names to light novels/manga/anime is really getting on my nerves. And they force it to be long by using stupid words like "yo ne!" ou "yahari" and so on.
Just check out this few long titles I came across:

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.

Onii-chan no Koto nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru

Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne!

Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai

It was original at first, but now, meh... when I see a long title I can only think this title would fit much better: "After all, we can't be original enough to choose a title, so how do you expect us to be able to come up with a nice plot?" Look, I'm not saying that all those animes are bad, but it's a warning sign and huge turn off for me.

And you, what do you feel about long titles? What is the most ridiculous longest title you ever saw?

WARNING: I'm a hater and so "haters gonna hate"

Why is it that recent anime shows are so bad? I mean, even though some good animes are still being made (Kemono no Souja Erin or Ookami Kakushi to name a few), in the last 5 years some really bad shows were made.

Despite having gorgeous art, these bad shows have absolutely no story (oh! so boring), zero comedy (or no comic sense at all), and characters that are far from likable. I know that for every year there's a dose of bad shows, but lately the retarded shows are just too bad and there's a few too many. Just to name some of the shows I'm talking about (very sorry if you are a fan from any of these titles):

Candy Boy
Hidamari Sketch
Mouryou no Hako
Amatsuki
Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Highschool of the Dead
GA: Art Design Class
Sasameki Koto
Bungaku Shoujo
Kami-sama no Memo-chou
Kemeko Deluxe!
Akane-Iro Somaru Saka
Akikan!
Kanamemo
Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Kämpfer

And what amazes me is that some of them are actually popular and get more seasons... while good shows go unnoticed.
