...when one's just poking around. Finding Æon Flux in a new friend's list prompted me for this little rant-like entry.

Finding what I have in the relations makes me wonder if everything should simply be considered anime and be done with it. I keep thinking of a line from Pirates 3; (Captain Sparrow upon learning Sou Fang made Elizabeth a Pirate Lord) "Captain? They made you Captain? They're just giving the bloody title away."

But one thing made me wonder when I found a few items. The Last Unicorn and The Hobbit, made by the same companies and drawn largely by the same people, are not both anime. Then there's Thundercats and Silver Hawks, with the former being considered anime and both being done by the same American based company and animation crew. I keep wondering when other animated productions like Smurfs and Laser Tag are gonna show up here.

To me, around here it seems that if there's just one Japanese person part of an animation project, no matter anything else, it's anime. Pretty loose compared to my definition.

Then again, maybe this is just the babbling of an old fart. And I just might be a bit hypocritical since most of what I've related to this is also in my list.

Added 2009/10/04: Figured I'd do a few searches, largely for kicks and what not. All that's missing now is The Return Of The King animated movie to complete that old set from the 70's and 80's.

Added 2009/12/22: Looks like things have been trimmed down here substantially, with several entries having been removed. Nice that there's now more stringent criteria in what constitutes anime now. The only two relations I'm rather apathetic about, and probably won't care one way or another.
