What Makes An Anime Good?
I see a lot of people see an anime with cute characters or yaoi fanservice or things like that and automatically assume it to be a good anime. But, in my honest opinion, it takes a LOT more for an anime to be considered "good".
It's always good to research the plot and maybe read some of the reviews it received. Otherwise, you may watch something that turns out to be a complete waste of your time.
I cannot count how many times my friends have seen a "yaoi kissing scene" in a preview or AMV, and then watched the actual anime, only to be very disappointed that it was a small subplot that lasted maybe 1 or 2 episodes.
Honestly, whether or not an anime is "good" depends on what your tastes are. Therefore, it's impossible to just ask around with a simple "Know any good animes?" You need to be more specific.
For me, an anime is especially good if it teaches a lesson about humanity or makes you think or allows you to see that the lines between good and evil are not always so solid.
Good examples of such animes would be Kuroshitsuji, Elfen Lied, and Monster, all of which have another thing that I love in an anime: a distinguishable plot with not too much random filler.
But also, if I'm in the mood to laugh and forget about good and evil for a brief while, then I like silly anime with not too much seriousness, like Hetalia.
The only real problem I've encountered that prevents Hetalia from being completely amazing to me is the animation style. The way the characters are drawn in the anime somewhat bothers me for some reason. That's why I like to look at fanart so much. It's drawn in what I consider to be a better style for the most part.
But, yeah. Some people like any anime with a lot of yaoi. For you, I would recommend "Junjou Romantica" or (if you don't mind watching animated p0rn) "Sensitive Pornograph".
I actually am the opposite with that. I'm naturally drawn to anime with yuri in them as a main pairing. But I don't like hentai yuri at ALL. So, if anyone is like that, I would strongly recommend "Strawberry Panic!" or "Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl".
But, yeah. Everyone likes different things, so there is no official way to say an anime is "good", since the definition is different for everyone.
