Knarde's Blog

July 6th, 2014
Hi everyone, I shall start my blog by quickly going over these shows I caught last season.

First of all, I tried to watch Blade & Soul that didn't get me interested, along with Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to which wasn't really funny... Moreover, even if I watched the pre-air special and two of the episodes, I found Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei not really great for how long it was.

Let's talk about the real stuff right away, shall we ?
This season I had two kind of shows. One kind I watched every week without missing any. The other kind I stopped in the middle and had to catch up with later.

Beginning with the ten shows I followed strictly, from my favorite to my least fav.

    • 1. Selector Infected WIXOSS
Quick story : WIXOSS is a perfectly normal card game. But in some deck there is a special card with a girl on it, if you get one then you are a Selector. The card speaks and only you and the other Selectors can hear it. The card can grant you one wish but you have to battle other Selectors for it, and if you lose three times, you are over with.

I was kind of reluctant at first because of their nose (I'm picky with character design) and because this is based on a card game, like a bunch of anime of the season. But it turned up to be really good, I like the OP and ED, and it has TAMA voiced by Misaki Kuno (who I love since Svezda ♥). This is based on the card game but doesn't stop on it : the rules are not even fully explained. It felt similar to Madoka at some point and didn't disappoint.
To conclude, the finale was just perfect. It began with sound effect in the OP and the end has been just... awfully perfect. I won't spoil but I cried a lot and will certainly watch the sequel. I look forward to it.
      9/10

    • 2. Hitsugi no Chaika
Quick story : Chaika travels to gather her father's remains to get him honorable funerals. Thing is these remains are really strong magic fuel and are kept by Great Heroes. Chaika meets Toru who is a Saboteur, a race fit for war, and is bored with the peace and saves him from a unicorn (well they kind of fight it together). The Saboteur accepts to work for her and to help her gathering remains. But some people are searching for Chaika.

Another other show with which I experienced difficulties with character design. Chaika's eyebrows are so disturbing. But her cheerfulness is very pleasant and the end of every episode gives the urge to watch the following one. I love the OP and ED.
And then the finale was great, it brings new questions for the sequel to resolve, and I like it. I can't wait.

    • 3. Isshuukan Friends.
Quick story : Fujiyama has a trauma and loses every memory of her friends every week, which is why she doesn't speak to anybody in class. Hase is interested in her and want to become her friend very badly. When he discovers the truth he wants to help her.

That's cute. That's slice of life. That's kind of sad sometimes. And when you think the problem will be over, there is news to come. Overall, very cute art, lovable characters, pleasant soundtrack. I enjoyed it a lot

    • 4. No Game no Life
Quick story : Shiro and Sora are unbeatable players in every game. One day they get a mail in which someone challenges them to a chess game, they win, of course, and then that someone asks them "Sometimes don't you think you were born in the wrong world ?". They agree and are sent to another world where everything is ruled by games.

Everything is beautiful, and as a big fan of Sakurasou I was then pleased to hear Mashiro and Sorata again ♥ The anime is funny and full of games (and fan-service for sure). Even if the protagonists are just too strong (especially Shiro, just like Sakurasou, she is the best!) this was really enjoyable. Some games were really fun (such as Shiritori and FPS)
There will probably be another season, and the finale was OK.
      9/10

    • 5. Black Bullet
Quick story : Gastrea monsters are threatening the world and infecting people. The only hope is an order that protects people. Rentarou, along with one of the cursed children (little girls with red eyes who are very strong in battle) called Enju is one of the civil officers in charge of the threat.

The soundtrack is really good, and the art is enjoyable, the loli are cute and the best part of the show. That said, I'm not a big fond of these kinds of ugly monsters.

      8/10

    • 6. Akuma no Riddle
Quick story : In the Black Classroom there is Haru and 12 assassins who are supposed to kill her. But Tokaku begins to like her and want to protect her. Nio is the judge and the rules are : you send a notice to Haru then you have to kill her in 48 hours. If you succeed, your wish is granted, if you fail you have to leave. Haru's goal is to safely graduate.

Great OP and EDs, great character design. Each episode seems alike : one of the girls attempt to kill her, fails, and we have some information on her past, and a beautiful ED. But this is still interesting. Battles are great and each girl (even if their name is hard to remember) is unique.

      Still 9/10

    • 7. Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin
Quick story : Nanana is a ghost, NEET, loves pudding and treasures. She's haunting Juugo's apartment. When she was alive she gathered magic items (Nanana's treasure) and hide them in ruins. Each ruin has a special puzzle to solve. Juugo wants to help Nanana by discovering who killed her, and begin to look for her treasure.

This show is refreshing, colorful, and I love the eye design. It is highly enjoyable and funny. Tensai is perfect. AND MISAKI KUNO IS HERE AGAIN ! HURRAY!
This is cute but we don't know much more in the end, but that doesn't really matter :)
      8/10

    • 8. Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san
Quick story : Inugami-san acts like a dog and loves cats. Nekoyama-san acts like a cat and loves dogs. They're perfect for each other.

Slice of life, short series. That's cute and there is Nao Touyama ♥ The art is simple and the ED song is great. Quick enjoyment.
      7/10

    • 9. Mahou Shoujo Taisen
Quick story : There are some kind of magical girls with their companions, they have to fight against bad creatures. We follow magical girls from several places in Japan.

The anime is not over, but that's short and funny. I can't follow everything that's going on but I keep watching it.
      6/10

    • 10. Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara
Quick story : Souta has the ability to see people's flags and he can "break" them to change the future. But he can't see the flag at the top of one classmate's head : Nanami. And he lives in the Quest Dormitory, an old building that risk being destroyed. But some girls he befriended end up living in and here begins a harem.

That's cute, each girl is cute but every character seems childish. In fact, you think this is one funny harem but then the plot begins and... this is really disturbing. I couldn't understand where this were going :x But still, Misaki was here again !
      7/10

Outch, this is quite a long work to do. Here is the rest of it. But I must warn you, I do not always prefer the previous shows to those to follow. Here we go :

    • 1. Mekakucity Actors
Quick story : These are some people whose eyes can become red and they have some powers. Story begins with a NEET who needs to go out, and is stuck in a hold-up.

Music is great, of course. Art is great because of shaft. The story is hard to follow, first we need like three episodes to understand what's going on, then we go into flashbacks and this is difficult sometimes. But overall, I liked the characters (but don't remember their names) and the story. The finale was a bit strange and rushed but was great.
      8/10

    • 2. Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?
Quick story : Benio Cocoa is new in town and loves rabbits (and little sisters). She stays at Rabbit House, a café, and meets other girls in the town. Then begins the slice-of-life cute girls doing cute things.

That's cute, that's sweet, that's hilarious. I think maybe sometimes it denounces the abuse of coffee (just kidding). I need more of this cuteness.
      8/10

    • 3. Escha & Logy no Atelier
Quick story : Escha is an alchemist who dreams of visiting floating ruins nearby. She works at Colseit and helps people along with Logy, who comes from a bigger alchemy center, Central.

This anime has the RPG feels to it. I really love this and now I want to play it... Escha and Logy are cute, and so are the other characters. The finale is great, the soundtrack is relaxing, but I need fan-service and a kiss :(
      7/10

    • 4. Gokukoku no Brynhildr
Quick story : Murakami lost his childhood friend, who had some moles under her arm, and thinks she is dead because of him. Much later, a transferred student comes to his school and looks exactly like his late childhood friend. But she doesn't seem to know him.

Every character looks the same. That's annoying. I found that a little bit predictable but that was good after all. I didn't understand every girl in this show, but hey that's not a big deal. OPs were pretty good, I liked the last one very much, and ED was great too. The finale was pretty interesting, maybe too rushed but I liked it.

      8/10

    • 5. Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou
Quick story : Usa moves into a complex where mad people live. He has a crush on a bookworm girl who is also living at the complex. He wants to become close to her.

That's funny and the story is cute, but I don't really like the art design. The music was good though. The inhabitants are charming. I do like romance so that's fine by me.

      7/10

    Hope I didn't forget anything.
Enjoy and see you. Please comment and tell me about how you feel ;)
