Mid-November already? The end is near... Let the excitement (and stress) begin! I've already decided to do a big wrap-up post at the end. Now it's just a matter of seeing how many more blocks I can check off before that point.

#52: An Anime tagged as Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or Supernatural
My Entry: Pokémon Best Wishes: Decolora Adventure

This was a lukewarm filler season... Existing only to wrap up Ash's adventures in Unova. There's really not much more to say about it. Just the next season on my list.

On the other hand... This means I've finally reached X&Y, which I've heard such great things about for so long... Dude. This show is so fucking pretty. Like, I'm only an episode in, but everything is great so far. The animation, the music... Speaking of, they took a chance and remixed the original OP, and I think it paid off. Like, the creators knew this season was going to be something special. I might just zip through this season after all and get to add it to my Challenge list.

#20: An anime tagged as Action or Adventure
My Entry: Pokémon Best Wishes Season 2: Episode N

You know what? I'm just gonna stop making assumptions. Maybe I will just never run out of spots to add Pokémon to my challenge list. Because I'm pretty sure it's tagged as Fantasy too, which is another block on my list that needs filling. There's one more season of Pokémon before X and Y. And it's only 20 episodes, so I'll definitely complete that before the end of the year. After that, it'll be a matter of whether I have time to finish X and Y in time for this challenge. I may not have to find a space for it, if I can't finish it before the end of the year.

The longer this goes, the more I regret not participating in the challenge for real, actually. Because, what with all these Pokémon entries, I definitely could have scored at least the lowest scoring badge... I'm not sure that will be the case if I participate next year, because I won't have Pokémon as a sort of... background noise anime. I can go through them a lot faster because I haven't been reviewing them. (On my YouTube channel. I've written shorter reviews for them on here.) Any show that I know I'm going to review tends to take a lot longer to get through because I'm really conscious about analyzing and planning. So this year may not be a great precursor of what it would be like to participate for real next year. I guess we'll see.

And here I thought I had run out of any possible spot that could be filled up with another Pokémon entry.

#20: An anime that was broadcast on a weekday
My Entry: Pokémon Best Wishes Season 2

This was one of the easier blocks to fill, but I didn't really think about it until I'd sort of run out of options. So I guess you could say I just got lucky. Season two of Best Wishes was aired on a Thursday. This time I am almost positive that I'm out of spaces on my challenge where I can use another Pokémon entry... But the next season is almost half as long, so I'm sure I'll finish it too before the year is up. I might finally have to use up my Free space.

Anime Relations: Zoids Shinseiki/Zero
We're coming up on the end now.

#55: An anime marked as Mecha, Military, Police, or Space
My entry: Zoids: New Century/Zero (which falls under the Mecha qualification for this.)

Original Zoids took me by surprise. It was much better than I'd been anticipating. And the first sequel... or spin-off might be more accurate was... disappointing. Less exciting story, less likable characters... A lot of people still seem to love it, but that's true of most children's shows. I suppose nostalgia kicks in to block out some of the flaws. In fact, I believe New Century is only marked worse than Original on this site by a difference of .03.

Which isn't to say this experience has turned me away from looking into some of the other Zoids sequels some time in the future. The way I see it, right now Zoids is sitting at half and half. They've made one good season and one bad, and I still have hope for the next one to be good again. But I'll be taking a break from the franchise for a while before I have to make that evaluation.

Anime Relations: Pokemon Best Wishes!
We're getting pretty close to wrapping things up... I know, December 31st is still a few months away, but the sad fact is, I don't get through anime that quickly. So I'm expecting only a few more entries on my challenge, and then I'll do a recap to see how it went when all is said and done.

#23: An anime containing 22 episodes or more. (Can we appreciate the irony for minute, that this requirement wasn't placed in block 22?)
My Entry: Pokémon: Best Wishes

This is now the fourth entry that's been Pokémon related in some way or another. I'm sad to say this was the worst season so far, in my opinion. I wrote a full review, if you're interested in my thoughts on that, so I won't repeat myself here. At this point, I feel a little like I'm filling out the simple blocks. Fun fact: I actually was going to use Ghost Hound for this slot. But I read it wrong, thinking it had to be more than 22 episodes (Ghost Hound is exactly 22, which upon reading it a little more carefully does still meet the requirement.) so I ended up using it for a different slot.

September 18th, 2017
I feel like I had an epiphany of sorts today while looking through the new Fall season's anime titles. Recently, I've been trying to strike a balance between the number of shows in my Completed list and the number of shows in my Plan to Watch list. This hasn't been hard lately. I feel like the past few seasons have been a little... dry. There weren't an abundance of series that looked all that interesting to me, so it was easy for me to only add one or two at the start of each season. But this season there are quite a few shows that caught my eye, and I realized I'd kind of lost track of the purpose of the To-Watch list, as I understand it. The list of PTWs are supposed to be unattainable, in a sense. Isn't that the fun of it? To have so many shows you're interested in just possibly watching one day that you know you'll never have time for everything on the list. It keeps my options open if I'm ever at a loss for what to watch next. I can just pick a random title from the list and see where it takes me. So I did my best to loosen my addition requirements this season. ...And still only added, like, four or five shows, but I feel good about them.
