Anime Relations: Kokoro Connect, Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko., Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai
This blog will be about a big problem with paranormal setting anime, that have gotten popular and a recommendation for one that does it well. What I mean by paranormal is that there's some mysterious curse, not the ghost kind of paranormal. It's a small trend but regardless it's sells like hot cakes.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl

Bunny Girl Senpai is a super popular anime and it really confused me when it came out as I didn't think it was good at all, as the anime felt like a nothing sandwich with just the bunny girl to make a stimulus go off in your brain like those monkey juice reward experiments. This anime seems like it is purely pandering towards the youth, but won’t elaborate any further. It’s a trend for paranormal anime that they’ll have a paranormal idea but won’t come to any conclusion and cut corners leaving an unfinished sloppy mess. It revolves around being an outcast and ignored as some puberty disease that is around, so the mangaka can have an excuse to have some horny bait Bunny Girl in the anime when she is just a high schooler. What grinds my gears in anime is the deplorable fetishisation that doesn’t even need to be included, as a lot of weebs are deviant perverts that will cross over the lines and normalise gross things. This anime is not perverted enough. They had to add siscon in the mix for the cherry on the top which that and lolicon is what I despise, but there’s anime that have it which I can accept to overlook if the content is good, like Monogatari Series.

The anime loves to always shows Sakuta giving into his urges and trying to make advances on the bunny girl as they are dating, also the anime is just boring for me as it doesn’t want to go to into depth with the paranormal side and will instead of mediocre scenarios that an average teen would do. It’s like it has so much filler and it doesn’t interest me because Sakuta has zero personality or anything interesting about him, he is just an average person who so happens to know a girl in a bunny suit. He is like similar to Denji, a guy that is less interesting than an inanimated object and his whole personality is just dry cold commentary, and a perverted mind. It seems that this personality type works so the trend keeps continuing to this day. For this reason I don’t like this anime as it appeals to perverted people and “he just like me” character types, which is just “I wish I got a gf in high school” people. The plot is uninteresting and bland, it has a golden opportunity to delve into its paranormal side but doesn’t.

Kokoro Connect

Now for this anime which I've had problems with for so long that I was finding the right time to share my thoughts about it as it gets recommended a lot but there is better paranormal anime out there. Kokoro Connect has the same principles as Bunny Girl but does them slightly better, however it ends up being a waste of time. As the anime includes too much too fast, what I mean by that is it can’t keep itself on track with plot having episodic paranormal stuff that happens but will never finish each one and goes onto the next. This would be fine if it was done well but it was just lazy and ended up being annoying as the plot you’re supposed to be invested in so if it changes topic; while leaving many questions behind then it ends up being a poor overall experience. What separates it from bunny girl is that it actually has a good start and has the potential to be good, but ends up being a disappointment which is just what my parents say about me.

Pervert Prince and Stony Neko

Now, we dunked on those trash piles, and educated why these anime don’t work for being about paranormal stuff. Let’s give light on a brilliant paranormal anime that fulfils the plot and does everything the right way. When I watched this anime I didn’t expect much but was delighted when I discovered it and I am surprised why not many know about it. The anime even has a level of deepness to it and meaning to its plot. The anime is about a perverted guy and shy girl who wished at a shrine to be better at something, Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi (say that ten times fast) wishes to be more confident and talk more, and Youto wishes to get rid of his filter and be able to say anything he was; he must be doing a speedrun on getting arrested. With having a good interesting plot and progression with characters that actually have personalities. It was actually enjoyable for its short length, what carries the show is the characters being very interesting and original. It makes the anime meaningful and not watered down to appeal to its audience. They have fun but then realise that their wishes weren't what they really wanted and must deal with the disastrous outcome of not being able to control themselves. The comedy slice of life with this original concept makes for an entertaining product, that is full of humour and the quirkiness.

The title alone catched my attention as it was very rude but it maintained my attention and garnered my praise as I had problems with the lacklustre paranormal anime. Until I found this anime and for me it just did everything right and embodied originality with familiar concepts. This anime is really about letting your impulses win. I found it very funny throughout the anime with the back and forth from the characters, that it just felt like the show was original and all the characters worked together; while having fleshed out well written depth to them just enough that they felt like people as much as anime can. There’s also the tsundere character that feels like the most sane one out the bunch because they have the curse, this one of few anime that can make this type of dere feel not annoying and works because she hides her true self while the others share their self, so the characters work very well and is actually genius. This is a very good anime that I would recommend for people who like comedy slice of life that actually has a story (rare!).
