what?

seriously?

i've heard this comment so many times about a terrible anime.

oh, the first few episodes are bad/slow/filler/not important. you have to keep watching it before it gets good.

why?

why the fuck should i keep watching it in the hopes of it getting good if i'm constantly disappointed by a worse outcome and diminishing returns?

no.

if someone didn't bother making the plot and characterization good enough that it captures your attention immediately and then keeps it, they don't deserve the benefit of a doubt.

if i can watch something that doesn't suck from the start, why should i have to endure something that starts out sucking and then maybe will get better?

Or something worse can happen: your mind, in a self defense mechanism from having your torture yourself, will actually let you regard the anime with less criticism. Thus, for some people, they might end up saying something that has no redeeming qualities "wasn't that bad" because their brains tricked them into thinking that.

Yes, I've dropped countless series for the same reason. He is my Master couldn't possibly have got any better. Nor could DearS. They say some shows need to rise from the ashes and they will show you how they flourish.

But if something rises from a steamy pile of shit, it doesn't stop it from being shit-covered, now does it?
