This doesn’t make any sense.

We can assuredly state now that this type of narrative is unique and might appeal for some viewers. However for me personally who holds respect towards women and true love, this story treated these virtues ungracefully and contradicted their moral principles.

The animation is quite average, but that wouldn’t be a problem for me if the characters or the story would have shown valuable ethics and warmth entertainment. In fact, they portraying the opposite.

After seeing four episodes, I think I will have to drop this despite I hardly ever do that, but it seems my morals are stronger than my ... tolerance at this point.

Although, that long lasting and loyal relationship is started to fade in our society and now it might feel more of a fairytale. I still believe that those original romantic stories are based on genuine feelings.

This one is a toxic, uncomfortable and forced love story that is hard to consume for someone who respects the meaning and the value of true love.

Therefore I highly suggest you to pick some earlier romance anime that genuinely depicted loyalty and love like the followings: Re:Life, Akagami no Shirayuki Hime, Darling in the Franxx or Plastic Memories.

Don’t let the cringey title fool you—this anime is far more than your typical rom-com. I went in expecting a standard lovey-dovey story, but from the very first episode, I was completely captivated. The plot took unexpected twists and I'm hooked!

This isn’t just a sweet, feel-good romance; it’s a story about a toxic relationship, and it explores the complexities in a way that feels raw and real. That’s exactly the kind of anime I’ve been craving.

By the time I reached episode three, I was so hooked that I dashed to Barnes & Noble to dive into the manga, and trust me—it did not disappoint. ... The story only gets better. I finished the manga in 1 day.

The art style is absolutely stunning, reminiscent of the classic anime from the 2000s. The characters are beautifully animated.

The drama and toxicity are what drew me in, but in real life, it’s a different story. It’s definitely not okay, but hey, this is fiction!
If you’re looking for an anime that breaks the mold and keeps you coming back for more, give this one a shot. You won’t regret it.

If you like messy and spicy romance with the ever present danger of death or bodily harm hanging over your main character’s shoulder, look no further than Yakuza Fiancé! Finally, a series that shows us the real ins and outs of Japan’s most famous criminal organisation and right in the middle of all that are our two leads who SHOULD be in class doing their math lessons, but are instead uncovering mob conspiracy theories and interrogating grown ass men. Yea, this show’s a riot, over the top and unbelievable but damn is it fun as hell. It also features the best girl of the ... season. I’m obsessed with this story and need more.

Disclaimer up front, I am a massive Yoshino stan, she was my pick for girl of the season and is one of my favourite female characters overall. If you like your leads to not be damsels in distress who stand around waiting for the guy to come rescue them, able to outsmart people and not afraid to get their hands dirty in a fight, I have good news for you. Yoshino does that as well as anyone I’ve seen. She really is the driving force behind this story and your enjoyment will depend on how much you like her as a character. Assuming you’re a fan of bad ass girlboss characters, this is easily going to be one of the best shows of the year for you.

One cool thing about Yakuza Fiancé is it doesn’t glorify the yakuza or make it this cool thing you want to join. Voluntarily entering it is one thing, but being born into a yakuza family puts you into a prison of sorts, prohibits the things you can do and be. You always have to have a guard and be looking over your shoulder. It’s a very restrictive lifestyle that can be hard to deal with, mentally and physically. They do a good job of showing how that affects Yoshino. She has to put up this fake persona to cope and survive with her circumstances. It gets played off as a joke during the series sometimes, but for the most part I think they nail the gravity of the situation. This series really doesn’t shy away from the reality of gang life. Blackmail, extortion, murder, drug use and a plethora of other unsavory things. It gets dark at times which I love. While exaggerated at times, it definitely felt like I was watching something aimed at adults. Hell, we even have a male lead who has casual sex with other girls while he’s pursuing the female lead. Like when’s the last time we’ve seen something like that, Nana?

That’s a perfect segue into the other big selling point here. The romance. Love em or hate em, Yoshino and Kirishima are the focal point of the story. The classic arranged marriage to genuine relationship trope, but this one actually feels interesting because Kirishima is a scumbag. He acts like you would think a gang member acts. Sleeps around, foul mouthed, anger issues etc. While I am, at the time of writing, not a big fan of him, I really appreciate that the author gives us a different type of male lead. All of these shy dudes who are scared of girls get old. Show me someone who’s unhinged and has a ton of experience with women, but not THIS sort of woman. It’s a unique romance setup. I did see a little bit of growth out of Kirishima towards the end of the series, but personally I much prefer the childhood friend/bodyguard for Yoshino. Yea, he’s also a mob guy, but a much more normal person if that makes sense. There’s a cool little love triangle brewing between them which I love. Huge fan of tension and drama and this show has it in spades. The romance doesn’t get overbearing though, Yoshino is her own character and isn’t reliant on a man or a relationship to shine which I love.

The art style is apparently a love or hate thing. I think it looks gorgeous, Yoshino’s look was one of my faves of the year. The animation left a lot to be desired, but it is a seinen romance tbf so you don’t need anything crazy.. certainly could’ve been better though. It’s up there with Deen’s better works as of late, not quite Gimai Seikatsu good, but solid.

This was probably my 3rd favourite show of the season or so. I loved this one so much. The messiness, the gang warfare drama, Yoshino being a badass. There’s a lot to love here for me and I believe any fan of strong female leads will enjoy it. If you like your romance with some spice, this is also for you. Cannot wait to start reading it.

Yakuza Fiancé gets 9 out of 10

A rom-com with violence and in the yakuza world, could be cool I though,but I was wrong. I'm going straight to the point, it is bad.

The art is weird and low budget. The characters has a weird looking design and the draw is very digital and crunky, the kind of you would expect from a tablet. The animation is average, doesn't need much more, though.

The character development simply isn't there.
The girl is prude and naive, her actions make no sense and it seems like she was born the day before.
But the next episode she empower herself selling one of her kidneys (maybe I ... miss something and that was a joke (?) dunno) and become kinda dominatrix with the boy. But then she get back to be naive and so on.
The boy is a douchebag masochist with weird and fucked up desires. Some kind of "jekyll and mr. hyde" personality, and also is a yakuza and a high schooler.

The plot boils down to "you're going to marry this guy, so you're going to move into his house and sign up for his school, and do what he tells you to do" literally that, five minutes in and it's all set up, we don't need to know any more I guess.
All this seasoned with the use of really offensive language, verbiage and swear words continuously without being necessary. A treatment and degrading attitudes towards the female protagonist are shown. Things like prostitution or sexual humiliation are trivialize. The relationship is toxic, disfunctional and disrespectful to say the least.

I prefer seinen anime and I'm not against violence in them, but here everything seems to be for the shock and awe of the viewer, as if someone said "if we make the character use super gruesome violence as if nothing, so casual, and say things that you would expect to hear in porn movies that's going to make our product serious and adult".
I don't know, if it had some kind of justification, a decent and adult plot, or even some sense in its plot I would understand it, but it lacks any logic and it is clear that it doesn't know what it wants to be, and what it pretends to be is not funny and doesn't make sense. I don't recommend it, not even a little

Shoujo and Josei enjoyers are really starved in the anime industry and I thought this was a beacon of hope with a promising and interesting premise.
It wasn't that. This series really wants to be too many things at once. You can't build a fluffy romance on top of a morally grey crime syndicate story and make the protagonists at times crazy, badass, calculative mind gamey but also kind of innocent, deeply in love cinnamon buns. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but what will come of that is protagonists that feel like they have dissociative identity disorder with the whiplash they give you ... with their motivations and reactions. I was watching this screaming "this doesn't make any sense" so many times. Does it want me to watch a matching-their-freak sado-maso badass Yakuza girl romance with a guy head over heels with a calculative badass or does it want me to watch a more or less earnest and innocent girl fall in love with a kind of morally grey and a little bit of a social dimwit but totally deeply in love with her fluffy romance? Is it trying you be 'i love you but you hate me'? Its trying to act like it is! But she stops hating him after like an episode and just acts mildly irritated with him while at the same time apparently trying to get her revenge on him because she hates him but also at the same time they're kind of besties who rely on each other?
This is a mess in so many ways by trying to be and have the characters be too many things at once, where nothing they do makes any sense. Its like Schrodingers Josei, with how the characters exist with multiple personalities at once until observed by an unassuming Josei enjoyer.

This is a serially underestimated anime - it's maximized everything it could do with a low budget, and is far more entertaining than it has any right to be. The main leads are an insane mix of badass and psychotic, and propel the story with the force of their strong personalities. This is also the most world building I've seen a romcom attempt, and there is more than one yakuza subplot stirring underneath - part of the fun is to peel back the onion layers, and figure out what is motivating whom. The VAs carry the show on the back of a solid dialogue script; ... one can't predict what they'll say next, but the line delivery will make you laugh out loud. Songs are bangers, and the music design is no slouch; it is perfectly timed and well-composed. People turn away from this anime because it doens't look good - they're not wrong, the character designs are not appealing and there's nothing in the animation to admire, but like I said, this anime maximized everything it had at its disposal and added dynamic camera angles and creative character positioning to spice up what could easily have been static scenes. My score reflects this mammoth effort to make good with little means. It's kept my eyes glued so it's definitely doing something right.

What the fuk is this? Just tell me. I was hoping for a decent romance, but all I got was nonsense, cringe, and a story with no sense whatsoever. Stupid characters who keep changing their personalities every second, and guess what? It’s always for the worst. That’s all this show is about.
The Only Watchable Episode? The First One.
Yep, just episode 1. That’s it. We saw an innocent girl suddenly living with a yakuza for some random reason. The MC? He has this fake smile, but inside, he looks like a violent psychopath. And guess what? That was the only interesting thing about him. That’s ... it. After that? A complete mess that makes zero sense.

The Big Dumb "Twist" – Personality Switch Gone Wrong! ------

Suddenly, the FMC’s personality does a complete 180. This dumb, annoying bitch suddenly starts acting all mighty like she’s some queen. “You mess with me, and you’ll pay.” Yeah, sure. And our MC? The same guy who was acting all violent suddenly turns into a dumbass lapdog. And it’s not just them—every character goes through these stupid personality changes that have no logic whatsoever. And guess what? It stays that way till the end.
STORY ------

There Is No Story. Heh-heh, No story in this show. It is like a one-time watch of the same episode until the final credits roll.The MC was destined for better things, but after that first almost worthy episode, all he does is act like a stupid-ass, chasing around a stupid bitch who isn't worth anything. That is it. That's the whole complete story.

And the FMC? She even doesn't have character. She does the same thing again and again, acting high and mighty for no apparent reason and bringing nothing serious to the story.


in the end This show is garbage. A wannabe dark romance that doesn’t know what the hell it’s doing. It’s cringe, the story is nonsensical, and the characters are the worst part of it all. Don’t even bother watching unless you enjoy pain and disappointment.
At this point, you might as well start watching a hentai at least it would make more sense than this.

Welp, where do i even start. Ive seen many tiktoks about this anime and i decided to give it a try. I dont know if in manga this all is written better or no, since ive never read it but i feel like there is no character development...Almost every episode its the same, sometimes i could predict as well whats gonna happen. I dont really like that idea that he was sleeping with multiple women. I kinda hope they would maybe make another season later so we can also get some answers on our questions, since the last episode end up the way it did. ... The artstyle is not really cup of my tea but i didnt have big problem with it as other people have. Welp, if someone is bored and maybe looking for something to watch so ye give it a try, but i wouldn't rate it more than 5/10 average.

I'm honestly a little surprised that this series doesn't have a better rating.

But then again... I saw some of what people complained about with this series and it's honestly quite silly.

For starters, this is an anime about YAKUZA. Don't go into this series thinking that these characters are going to be pure of heart, morally upright, or even sane or healthy. This series is a bit more adult and, in a way, more realistic; some people can't seem to handle that. Some characters sleep around, many are violent, and a lot of characters have their own crazy agendas and motivations that fuel their actions. ... Kind of like real life, people cheat, get hurt, and aren't always mentally healthy to be around. This anime isn't very dark, but it does seem to have irked some people. To any who may be offended by its subject matter, I say this: a romance isn't always GOOD, and the people involved may not be either. In fact, some shows categorized as "romance" are MEANT to focus on toxic character dynamics. You're not necessarily supposed to root for the main couple all the time. Sometimes, you just go with the flow and observe their journey to see where the people involved end up. Yakuza Fiance is one of those series.

With that out of the way, I can delve a little bit deeper into the characters themselves.

The female main character, Yoshino Somei, seems to be a generally good person with a bit of a dangerous side that she ends up indulging in when a member of a different yakuza group comes into her life. I think with this yakuza anime the sides of the characters are actually supposed to come out as if being activated by a switch. They switch between their usual personality and their darker one, sometimes in quite abrupt ways that people may find jarring. However, I found it to be quite refreshing and even humorous. Yoshino is a tough girl; she just doesn't seem like it in the first episode. Perhaps her general niceness hides this. Yoshino's switch though...Kirishima Miyama. Once she figures out that something weird is up and that this new guy is interested in her, we get a fuller image of who Yoshino is. She's quite the fiery to say the least.

As for Kirishima Miyama, he's ridiculously toxic. It's obvious that his upbringing or something in his past scarred him in some ways, although this isn't explored very much. I can only assume that they'll get around to that in a second season... If not, I guess they'll leave it at "He never learned basic decency due to his background". His interactions with the people around him, especially Yoshino, are the highlight of the series. I've gotten a good laugh out of the many ways they try to get ahead of/maneuver around each other's tendencies and the lengths they'll go just to show that they mean business. Kirishima is awful, and he hides it all behind a smile. And even that doesn't quite do the job. It almost feels forced. Their facades definitely make for an interesting show though. For one reason or another, those two have a compelling chemistry that I think even they aren't quite sure of.

As for the other characters, they serve their purpose, often adding to the somewhat episodic nature of the show. They have a bit of mystery and humor to them as well, but don't expect very fleshed out characters.

The plot, as I mentioned before, is mostly episodic. I personally found it difficult to keep track of the little details from previous episodes that came up again in future episodes, but maybe that's just me. The show is mostly just yakuza fights with some foreshadowing of a power struggle that the main characters find themselves involved in. It's also just a lot of crazy situations jam packed into a show with the plot used as a mere means for those situations to occur. The story is not perfect by any means, but it is enjoyable if you just want a crazy ride. It's a ride revolving around impulsive decisions, plain crazy decisions, hedonism, and simply the joy of a challenge. The amount of fun and glam in this show is more than enough to make up for the areas where it's lacking. And a warning: a large part of this show's appeal is IN its ridiculousness. A lot of characters, scenarios, and dialogue would obviously not be acceptable in real life, and the show does not promote it; it merely depicts it, and says "Look at how insane this is!" It's pretty much daring you to keep watching and see how things escalate.

Anyway, back to the glam I mentioned earlier... I'm absolutely in LOVE with the art style. The opening and ending themes are a good example of the best that the show has to offer, but there's plenty in the show itself that looks stunning. Although it can be a hit or miss for some people, especially with certain characters, it can be absolutely beautiful. I love the vibrant colors, the highlights and shadows in the hair, and even the eyes. The emotional intensity of the characters is expressed wonderfully in their faces. It leans into those Yakuza vibes perfectly, especially in the way the character's faces contort and appear ominous. There are a lot of "What did you just say?!" faces that scream "There's gonna be a murder" so that's a plus if you're into that. There is a scene where the clothes look weird on Yoshino, but I think that was a one off. The art is usually well done. The animation is just...fine. Not spectacular, but fairly good.

The soundtrack is fine as well. It's quite effective for the moment, though I can't really say that it's memorable. The opening and ending themes are the best samples of music in the show.

Overall, it's a pretty good anime. Just watch it if you want a good laugh. Or maybe if you want to see some wacky character dynamics. It put a smile on my face for sure despite everything. It's hard to not enjoy it. For some people, it's a guilty pleasure, but for me... It's just a show of extremes. Stylish, extravagant, and excessive while also generally lacking depth and seriousness. It's a balance I find to be intriguing. Maybe you will too.

There’s an authenticity to the characters that makes even their most absurd decisions feel grounded and, dare I say, relatable. They’re flawed and messy, but that’s precisely what makes them so compelling.

The animation has been a topic of contention among viewers, but honestly, it’s serviceable and does its job of bringing the story to life. This isn’t the kind of show you watch for its visuals; it’s all about the characters. The aesthetic matches the gritty and unpolished vibe of the narrative, and while it might not be groundbreaking, it’s certainly not a deal-breaker.

What elevates "Yakuza Fiancé" beyond mere trashy entertainment is its unabashed confidence in what it is. It doesn’t try to be deep or overly sophisticated—it revels in its chaos and dares you not to be entertained. For fans of over-the-top romance with a spicy edge, this series is an absolute treat. Whether it’s the sharp dialogue, the explosive arguments, or the moments of genuine tenderness that catch you off guard, there’s always something to keep you hooked.

If you’ve been craving a romance that’s bold, unfiltered, and just a little bit toxic (in the most entertaining way possible), "Yakuza Fiancé" delivers in spades. It’s messy, it’s trashy, and it’s utterly fabulous—a rollercoaster ride of emotions that’s impossible to resist.

Thanks to advancements in the industry, the process of adapting manga into anime doesn’t take a decade anymore. While I’m not sure if "Yakuza Fiancé" will get a sequel, it gives me hope for more low-budget, niche adaptations to come our way. It’s an exciting time to be a fan, with so many niche stories finally getting their chance to shine.

When I first stumbled onto Raise Wa Tanin Ga Ii or Yakuza Fiance, I was pretty bored of romance anime/manga. I thought I knew how this series would play out. A cute, feminine, and innocent female lead meets a Yandre Yakuza bad boy who changes for the better because he falls in love with her. Both would stumble around their feelings for one another, and bad boy would steal the show by getting into fights saving her all the while looking really cool. Tried and true.


Episode one seemed like it was setting exactly this up until…

Kirishima looks Yoshino dead in the eye and tells her ... that if she’s going to hang around him, she may as well make use of her only redeeming quality- her looks- and sell her body at a brothel he has connections with. He says it because he wants her scared of him and gone.

 
And she does sell her body. 

 
She disappears for two weeks and comes back after selling her kidney. Which is stupid, yeah, but she refuses to let anyone think that they can intimidate or manipulate her. She did it to send him a clear message. She’s crazy, and she doesn't back down. She’ll go to extremes and drag you down with her.

And just like that, he’s obsessed
and SO AM I!


This series is so much fun! It leans into trashy tropes but quickly subverts expectations. 

Female leads in yakuza stories are typically submissive or resigned to their roles. Not here. Yoshino’s blunt, unpretentious personality and refusal to conform to expectations make her so refreshing. She also plays an active role in the story instead of just reacting to the antics of the boys around her. I love seeing her struggle to assert her autonomy in a world seeking to control her.

 She grew up around Yakuza, so she’s hardened and twisted. She has guts for days, is unafraid to join in on fights, and has no qualms about fighting dirty. Romantic ideals don’t blind her. Instead, she acknowledges her circumstances and finds ways to assert her agency. She’s not easily shaken and won’t hesitate to call anyone out on their bullshit, making her feel grounded and realistic. Overall, she’s not defined by one role or trope but is a multifaceted character who feels like a real person navigating extraordinary circumstances.

The extraordinary circumstances are Kirishima—a ML from hell. While Kirishima is a violent, sneaky, obsessive f**kboy, Yoshino will uphold her pride above all else. Their strong personalities clash like a Molotov cocktail to flame. For every one thing Kirishima does right as a romance ML, he does ten more things that should disqualify him, and she’s all too aware of them all. But she stays with him because she’d rather die than back down from a tough situation before finding a way to come out on top.
 It’s not normal or right, but it’s wickedly enjoyable to see play out!

She’s open about her inability to see him as a romantic interest—rightfully so because she knows how dangerous he can be. That said, she also makes it clear that she values authenticity, encouraging Kirishima to be himself rather than putting on a “good boy” act for her. Since both of them are tied to the yakuza world, they can understand and accept each other in ways outsiders can't.

 While many stories soften or redeem similar characters, Yakuza Fiancé leans into Kirisima’s worst qualities, showing his manipulative and unpredictable nature without romanticizing it. Love doesn’t make him a better person. He may act cute with her, but that doesn’t mean she can let her guard down around him.

Neither is right in the head, so their relationship could never be normal. It’s much less of a story where you watch this romance develop and more of one where you watch them react and grow as they deal with one another. 

The secondary characters also share rich, organic bonds with each other. Shouma is SO MUCH more than a second male lead existing solely for a love triangle, and Tsubaki isn’t just a simple supportive side character either—they each bring their own unique complexities to the narrative. These relationships add emotional weight to Yoshino’s journey, showing that her life isn’t defined solely by her engagement to Kirishima but by her connections to others in her world too. None of THEM are normal, so seeing them enter the scene is always fun.


WHAT I DON’T LOVE:

Studio DEEN’s limited budget is noticeable in the animation. The art direction sometimes fails to harmonize the characters with their environments, though nighttime settings look significantly better. 
While the sound design features a couple of cool tracks, it often feels mismatched with the tone. 
The pacing suffers from cramming too many moments into each episode, ultimately sacrificing emotional impact. 
While anime lets us see all the action scenes animated, the manga remains the superior version of the story, in my opinion. It’s just more polished and well-paced. 


 
Overall, Yakuza Fiancé is not for those looking for lighthearted romantic escapism; some may find the romance lacking in traditional payoffs. However, the series offers a compelling blend of psychological drama and romance, focusing on challenging conventions and crafting dynamic characters.
If you’re willing to give it your patience, the story is at its best from episode 7 onwards.
This is a fun watch if you’re ready for a story that keeps you guessing at every turn with a female lead who stands in a league of her own.

I don’t usually write anime reviews, but I felt like this one needed it—especially given its undeserved low rating. After watching, it quickly became one of the series that made me wish for an immediate Season 2. The story hooked me, probably because of its unique and intriguing plot.

Some viewers criticize the characters for being immature, impulsive, or childish, but let’s not forget—they’re literally high schoolers. Their behavior makes sense in context. Personally, I enjoy strong female leads who take control, and while I wasn’t a fan of the male lead’s personality, the character dynamics kept things interesting.

I’ll admit, the animation isn’t top-tier, but the ... characters—whether good or bad—felt compelling and real to me. Their flaws made them human, and that’s what I appreciated most. I’m just glad I didn’t let the low rating discourage me from watching. If you’re on the fence, give it a chance and judge for yourself.

Now, I can only hope for a well-deserved Season 2.

Yakuza Fiancé is not a serious anime series.

What first drew me to this series was exactly that unserious, insane, toxic "romantic" element. It was wild enough to keep me entertained during the first manga chapters, but I soon grew tired of it. And the same happened with the anime. The whole thing "it's so bad it's good" ran its course and became just boring and, at times, even unbearable.

Once the shock of the crazy circumstances and the batshit insane male lead is over with, and we become accustomed to everything, it kind of becomes predictable. And the secondary cast and fights, "scheming" and sexual dalliances ... are just boring and irritating; they very much feel like someone's idealized wet dream of a gangster/mafioso/yakuza/criminal bad boy.

The animation is not bad, but it's not good either, it's just "meh", it does its job well enough. But I really, really dislike the characters' designs, specifically those horrendous eyes with the weird pupils.

Yakuza Fiancé is a mind-numbing show. I didn't watch this anime for wholesomeness or realism, but I did watch it because I thought it would be stupid and crazy enough to keep me amused. Turns out it was mainly just stupid.

The romance aspect is very much missing, The love interest is very weird even without the fu*kboy nonsense and there's no basis for the love at all, maybe i need to read the manga but I found the premise to be very interesting just horrible execution . It seems to me they want to show that love where the guy would kill for the girl but i find that kind of thing is overboard. He wants to kill people for her but won't show her he's committed(continuously sleeps with women while claiming to love her). He stalks her, invades her privacy and they still want ... to portray this as love to a young adult male population, I think this is very alarming. They should discuss why these things are bad instead of just always brushing past it as if it's a healthy way to get to know someone. This guy doesn't learn at all.

I don’t usually write reviews, but my Godddd... Raise Tanin ga Ii / Yakuza Fiancé really deserves more recognition.

I was hooked from episode one, especially by the strong female protagonist. It’s so refreshing to see e a female protagonist who isn’t overly shy, passive, or weak. I was so drawn in that I had to go read the manga right after finishing episode four!

The storytelling is unique, and the blend of romance with yakuza culture makes it a standout. If you’re looking for something different that breaks the mold of typical romance narratives, I highly recommend checking this out!

Yakuza Fiance is a slow burning, hidden gem in the "slice of life with Yakuza" anime. It doesn't fit too much with crime drama, nor comedy / romance, but it plays off each genre to give it an edge. Yakuza family dynamics are always a fascinating study and in this case, the show gives a realistic overview in which these high school students have to grow up faster than the rest, even though Yoshino is immature with dating and Kirishima's social cues are abnormal. Each episode is unique and the story arcs have a good pace where you can keep up with ... the snippy dialogue in-between. Be warned with some confusing moments: there is a lot of back story with name dropping within the families and some of those characters don't show up in the first season. The character art design has had mixed reviews, I personally love the art, but there are two key characters that were nearly identical and they appear in back to back episodes (Nao and Tsunami). Overall, the finale was one of my favorites in 2024, it is well worth the journey, so give it a chance!!

This is another one of those romantic comedies that either is under someone's radar or just your first time hearing this as you're reading this review. With a title like this, you might be thinking, "Oh, is this another generic rom-com that you'd see on any other streaming service?" Well, if you're asking what I'd say about this individual anime. Yes and no. Yes, because it is certainly another generic kind of romantic comedy with our two main leads, Kirishima and Yoshino, who are arranged together thanks to Yoshino's grandfather, hate each other at the start and later on, they start ... to get to love one another despite the flaws that this anime has. And I also said no because there is more to this rom-com than how you'd see from past projects. If I'd say the short story about this, I would call this being a little bit of sweet with a tad more dash of spice to its premise with a bit of sour in the middle. By sour, I mean it as there are some flaws that I could find in this.
First of all, the characters are fine. Yoshino and Kirishima are our main couple going through high school, go figure of how the generic rom-com touches on, bicker to one another, getting to know one another while getting though some trouble that get in there way. Yoshino, being the granddaughter of a member of a yakuza, discovers that Kirishima had taken over the same yakuza that his grandfather runs. Yes, this has already been depicted as an arranged marriage thanks to Yoshino's grandfather. You could make the argument that they have a toxic relationship, which I won't disagree on. Unpopular opinion, though, I do think they were meant for one another. I mean, Yoshino is a bit of a hothead from where she was raised and Kirishima is brutal when it comes to being involved with the yakuza that his relatives run. Yes, they bicker, but at the least they do warm up as the series goes and get to know each other bit-by-bit. You could say that it's a good kind of toxic love since they are both into trouble whether they're together or not. At the end, each of them does end with a bit of a bloodbath. No gore, though. Plenty of blood from the violence that's shown in this.
For the side characters, you have Shouma, who is Yoshino's childhood friend and was adopted by her grandfather. You have Nao, who used to date Kirishima and is now a friend to Yoshino despite being an online celebrity. You have various members of the yakuza that Kirishima runs with and Yoshino's grandfather. I will admit I like the grandfather a lot more. Shouma is also like a hothead, especially for being with the same family that he was taken under. For Nao, not so much since she felt like a throwaway character despite having to date Kirishima and also another character named Ozu, who has an abusive attitude that got himself in a heated situation with Kirishima once Nao and even Yoshino got themselves into trouble. They're not terrible characters. They work well when they interact with Kirishima and Yoshino to keep the plot going, especially for the voice actors they were given. I haven't seen the English Dub which got announced. However, I think this anime is one-and-done for me upon writing this review. They even help keep the story interesting with its fight scenes. Again, plenty of violence to go around that can keep you entertained if you're a fan of it. I know I am since I grew up with loads of those.
This anime is unique due to the animation style it has. I love the background that surrounds the aesthetic of the series itself, giving it a mature tone like you'd see with the characters. Speaking of the characters, the designs of the character are eccentric. Well, some traits I'm not too much of a fan of like I'm not too big on Nao's eyes. Some of the clothing ranging from unique to out of style. I think the facial expressions that Yoshino makes feel like they belong in a cartoon. You could make an argument that those facial expressions do work when it comes to romantic comedies. However, I feel like they still work but it's a romantic comedy that's more on the sweet side and not this. This anime is different as it's more spicy than sweet. Matter of fact, there is an anime that balances the sweet and spicy moments and it has to go to Toradora. It's not Toradora but its own. Yet I do stand that the facial expression just doesn't fit well for this anime in particular. You are free to disagree with me from that standpoint. That's just my opinion. Lastly, this might be a pet peeve for me on this one but I'm not a fan of seeing their eyes in full view behind the hair that covers them, or even partly, if you look at them. I couldn't help but think of it as a designer flaw or an animation flaw. Sure, you don't see the entire eye, yet it feels odd to see their eyes blending into their hair to look like that.
I do think this anime has potential on its own for being a spicy sweet anime, yet on some occasions, it just turned out to be good in the end. Not great, but good. It's decently paced. Although, it felt like the final episode was a tad rushed with what was going on along with what was going on with the yakuza Kirishima is with after his fight with Ozu along with Yoshino. I do like Yoshino and Kirishima as a couple. The side characters are fine. In the end, this feels like a one-and-done for me. There is also some great humor in this, if you're looking for a good laugh. If you're a fan of romantic comedies, with a mature tone or not, this is worth checking out. Keep in mind that this is also a violent one.
I'm gonna give this series seven Kirishima looking down on you with a smile out of ten. 7/10.

I didn't think I would like it as much as I did.

I started watching the anime because I thought it would be interesting to watch, but at the same time I had no expectations and I wanted to watch something entertaining. And it was! I really enjoyed watching it every Monday while it was on. It was like watching a romcom full of drama and lots of funny scenes.

I don't recommend taking it seriously and much less expecting the romance to develop. If you're expecting a romance anime, you're not going to find it. It does have certain situations that build up the ... romance, but it's not something that happens in the anime, nor do I think it's close to happening in the rest of the story.
The same goes for the +16 part of the anime. There is blood when they fight, but there are no big scenes of violence, nor explicit sexual scenes. There is nothing that is graphic. It is quite soft in that sense.

I really liked the characters, especially Yoshino. I liked that she didn't go to extremes. She could be feminine and vulnerable, but also assert her limits and defend herself or others. She's also quite intelligent and proactive, something I appreciate because I prefer those types of characters, especially the femenine ones.

I couldn't stand Kirishima most of the time. I was annoyed by everything about him, mainly that he doesn't care about anything and has that annoying little smile on his face. The only good thing I'll say about him is that, although he is a manipulator, he respects Yoshino's boundaries and those of other people in general.

The drawing style seemed original to me, although it's not one of my favorites. The animation did seem pretty mediocre to me. It's not the worst in the world, but it's far from good. Sometimes they looked like robots walking.

Apparently there are problems with the publication of the manga and it's not known if or when it will continue. Personally, I would watch a second season because I had a great time watching the first one, but it's not a story that caught my attention, and I'm not dying to know how it continues.

I recommend watching it if you want to see something light and entertaining.

No pensé que me gustaría tanto como lo hizo.

Comencé viendo el anime porque pensé que sería interesante de ver, pero al mismo tiempo no tenía expectativas y quería mirar algo entretenido. ¡Y lo fue! Disfruté mucho de verlo cada lunes mientras estaba en emisión. Era como ver una telenovela llena de drama y muchas escenas graciosas.

No recomiendo tomárselo en serio y mucho menos esperar que el romance se desarrolle. Si esperan que se trate de un anime romántico, no lo van a encontrar. Sí tiene ciertas situaciones que van construyendo el romance, pero no es algo que pase en el anime, ni creo que esté cerca de suceder en el resto de la historia.
Lo mismo va para la parte +16 del anime. Sí hay sangre cuando pelean, pero no hay grandes escenas de violencia, ni escenas sexuales explícitas. No hay nada que sea gráfico. Es bastante suave en ese sentido.

Los personajes me gustaron bastante, sobre todo Yoshino. Me gustaba que no se fuera a los extremos. Podía ser femenina y vulnerable, pero también hacer valer sus límites y defenderse a sí misma o a otros. También es bastante inteligente y proactiva, algo que agradezco porque prefiero ese tipo de personajes, sobre todo si son femeninos.

A Kirishima no lo aguanté la mayor parte del tiempo. Me molestaba todo de él, principalmente que todo le importe poco y esté con esa sonrisita molesta. Lo único bueno que diré de él es que, si bien es un manipulador, respeta los límites de Yoshino y de otras personas en general.

El estilo de dibujo me pareció novedoso, aunque no es de mis favoritos. La animación sí me resultó bastante mediocre. No es lo peor del mundo, pero está lejos de ser buena. A veces parecían robots caminando.

Al parecer hay problemas con la publicación del manga y no se sabe si continuará o cuándo. En lo personal, miraría una segunda temporada porque la pasé muy bien mirando la primera, pero tampoco es una historia que me haya atrapado, ni me muero por saber cómo sigue.

Recomiendo verlo si quieren ver algo ligero y entretenido.

umm really not sure how to feel about this anime tbh. It has a good premise, some plot and decent character development. It is definitely absolutely not a rom-com, there is barely and romance anyways. The show is definitely aimed for an older audience, there's a lot of nuance in it. I wouldn't recommend it if you want a light watch but it is interesting. Definitely your cup of tea if you like dark romance.

Very unique story, personally I do hope for s2 not sure if it'll get one though. The art-style was an absolute BANGER tho! I honestly watched it, at first at ... least, because I really liked the art-style. It was really unique and the fight scenes were well animated too.

Overall great anime, realistic in yakuza families and their inner relations. Unrealistic in fights and power some individuals hold due to their connections etc. (plot armor really) but it is an anime in the end.

It is exploring the worldview and emotions of a psychopathic male lead and there is definitely character development. I don't get people that say there is none. Not a masterpiece and don't expect too much depth, just good anime. I wanted to write this review because too many people shit on it. Don't miss out at the expense of idiotic woke culture. Western "morals" are not universal and not everyone has ... to live abiding by them.
