Synopsis
A battle between Elle and Water Lily commences. The two fight until LAPD officers burst in, prompting the two to escape the facility. In an alley, Elle is met by Alani Davis, who tells Elle of her discovery of replicant bodies in the desert. Davis offers her protection so she can help bring Wallace Jr. to justice, but Elle does not trust her and flees. Meanwhile, Marlowe flies his spinner to Joseph's apartment. Davis goes to call the acting chief of police and report Wallace Jr.'s involvement in the Black Lotus case. However, she is impaled by Water Lily before she can relay the information. Water Lily hangs up and uses the phone to call Jr. to inform him of Elle's escape. Wallace Jr. commands her to stop pursuing Elle and is confident she will find her way to him herself. After the call, Water Lily turns around to find that Davis is gone. Marlowe arrives at Joseph's apartment and asks where Elle is, knowing Joseph has developed feelings and is protecting her. Joseph opens fire on Marlowe and the two exchange gunfire as they slip from the apartment into the building's atrium. Joseph comments on Marlowe's lack of emotion, who proceeds to recall that it was actually him who retired Selene years ago. Joseph is shot in the shoulder and flees into the elevator. The two fight hand-to-hand until Marlowe goes to pick up his gun, allowing Joseph to ascend to the rooftop. On the roof, Joseph and Marlowe continue to exchange gunfire. After being hit several times, Joseph drags himself to the edge of the building and manages to hide and ambush Marlowe. The two fight until Joseph picks up Marlowe's shotgun and shoots him several times, with the final shot sending Marlowe into the building's atrium and several stories down to the ground. Joseph collapses and falls unconscious. Elle reaches the rooftop and awakes Joseph, who learns that Elle didn't receive the memory wipe. Joseph advises that she finally leave the city. However, Elle points out that Wallace Jr. poses a constant threat to them as long as he lives, and vows to end the conflict once and for all.
