Yuru Camp△

If the only purpose of Yuru Camp was to create a very cute, shallow, flavor of the week moe show, then they’ve succeeded brilliantly. If it attempted to be something more than that, it failed brilliantly.

Story(3): Like most cute girls doing cute things shows, this show has little to offer in the way of story. This is a character driven show about a group of girls making friends and messing around in their club. There’s hardly any conflict at all, the girls simply go about their lives.

Art(6): The character designs do a great job of selling of cutsey part of the show, and do ... a good job clueing us on their personalities, as one dimensional as they may be. The pink hair girl has to be one of the most satisfying cute girl character designs I’ve seen in a while. I can’t say I remember the backgrounds being particularly notable, though, even in the parts where they are attempting to show off Mount Fuji. The animation isn’t anything special either.

Characters(2): A cute girls doing cute things show doesn’t always need to have a plot. They survive and die on the strength of their characters personalities and their relationships with each other. This is where the show really falls short. Each character could easily be summed up in one sentence. When they are put into situations, they interact in the most cliché and predictable ways possible. They’re not just laid back, they’re boring.

Enjoyment(3): Because of the lack of thought or effort put into these characters, I found myself getting bored half way through the first episode. I pushed through a couple more because the MAL score here was so far, hoping it got better. It didn’t, only adding more on dimensional characters that the show failed to make me care about.

~ No Spoilers [because there is no plot to spoil] ~

My good friend recommended me the show, Yuru Camp. He has recommended me great and very enjoyable shows in the past. Therefore, I was excited to watch another of his recommendations. However, I was distraught to see a no plot and no comedy, slice of life anime.

Story - 1
There is literal no story. The story only follows some girls and their camping experience. That premise is fine. Non Non Biyori just follows girls and their country side life. However, the difference is that Non Non Biyori actually has some comedy. My friend told me ... this was a "Feel good show" that would let you fall asleep soundly and make you feel comfortable. One part of that was for sure correct; I feel asleep. I was bored out of my mind watching this show and the only reason I did not drop is because my friend recommended me it. I can not prolong this section any longer because there is literally no story or plot points for me to talk about.

Art - 6
The art style is above average. I watched many shows with amazing and top notch animation (e.g Attack on Titan, Violet Evergarden, Beyond the Boundary). Of course it does not compare to these, however it is still pretty good. The character designs are pretty good. All the main cast looks like someone else from a show I have previously watched though. Although, I would like a different hair style other than bangs. The usual clique characters that look like Kyoto studios. Basically, what I am saying is that the Yuru Camp art style is a watered down version of Kyoto animation.

Sound - 7
I never really payed attention to anime soundtracks unless they are really good (e.g Attack on Titan, JoJos, Naruto, etc.). I can not pay attention to the animation, subtitles, and soundtrack at once. Also, slice of life anime's soundtracks are a lot more subtle as well so you can not blame me for not knowing much about this anime's soundtrack. Nonetheless, after revealing to my friend that I do not like the show, he bantered me by playing the soundtrack and openings none stop. They are not great, but they are not bad. They are good. One thing to note is that one of the openings of the show sounds like a Jackson 5 song. The soundtrack matches the shows slice of life aspect.

Character - 2
I understand that slice of life shows will most likely not have the character growth or development of shounen or seinen shows with characters like Eren Yeager, Gaara, or even Vegeta. However, you can still make good and lovable characters in slice of life animes. But this show does not have many lovable characters. All it has are the clique types of characters. The emotionless one, the outgoing and loud one, the nervous one, etc. Clique characters like this can still be lovable, but not in this anime.

Enjoyment - 2
You can probably tell by now that I did not enjoy it. If I could describe this anime in one word, it would be: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Overall - 2
Many other people have liked this show and it is highly rated. There are just so many better slice of life, comedy shows than this. Try Aho-Girl, Gakuen Babysitters, or Sakamoto Desu ga? instead. Thank you for you time.

I watched this anime a while ago now, but here I am, very bored and trying to do some work, looking for any mean to escape, and I thought to myself: hey, I have never told the world how I felt about this anime. So here I am.

I had been suggested to check this out after I finished K-On, and someone here on MAL told me it was excellent SOL, and the score is above 8.00. I also love hiking and trekking, so I said why not?

Here's why.

The characters were highly unengaging, with the slight exception of the tall green haired girl and the goofy ... pink haired girl (since I watched this maybe a year ago, I really cannot remember any name). At the other end of the spectrum, I found the MC, moped introverted girl, very hard to like, with her attitude of I don't like being with others, I like going by myself, being all broody. I have never ever found myself watching anime and wanting for a main character to fail so much, and considering that the show is definitely not about conflict, I think that's saying something.

The tricks and info about camping life were quite interesting, even though going to face adventure in the outdoors the way those girls do it is for sure not my idea of enjoying nature. Everything was too clean, polished, cute, even fashionable. Where is the mud? The sweat? The soggy boots, the cramps? The blisters?!?

Technically speaking, it left me really unimpressed: plain character design, plain animation. I remember the landscapes were quite good though.

In the end, a vanilla anime, I didn't hate it, I didn't like it, I can definitely live without.

I know that this anime is well liked and all, but I just did not enjoy it in the slightest. The characters were okay but the only one who really stood out to me was Nadeshiko. I hated Rin though, she was such a bore every time she was on screen. The animation is also pretty bad in this anime, not atrocious or anything but pretty bad nonetheless. The show features slice-of-life esque scenarios, but unlike most slice of life it gets incredibly repetitive incredibly fast. There's not really anything going on in this show that's entertaining in the slightest to me. I guess ... the appeal of the show is that it's cute? But that didn't really transfer to enjoyment for me. Overall, in my opinion it's not worth your time to watch Yuru Camp.
