I think it's always good to read a poor review for any anime. It doesn't reflect the opinions of everyone, but it's good to add a little perspective to the rest.

Story: 8/10
I actually watched this as a live action before I watched the anime and the premise is wonderful. Screw cliches --the heroine is to shoujo as a carrot is to bicycle. Ie. She defies almost every shoujo cliche and I love it!

Art: 3/10
I'm sorry. I love the story, but the art really put me off. I just don't like men with full lips and girly eyes. Nope. Can't help it. I like them to ... look at least a little bit like men. When they look as pretty as a girl, I just throw up a little.But the colouring and the heroine's appearance is fantastic --hence the 3, not a 0.

Sound: 5/10
Normal, nothing spectacular.

Character: 6/10
Save for the male lead and the heroine, not much can be said really.

Enjoyment: 3/10
I couldn't get past the women --ie. the men.

Overall: 4/10

I didn't like it. It wasn't my cup of tea. BUT, it might be yours.

This show had a great story line and plot, actually i don't even know if there was a story line.
I only saw about 5 episodes including the first episode, some middle eps and the last episode.
That's all i really needed to see. There was no character development throughout.

This show would have been fantastic IF Sunako, the lead girl, wasn't so unbearably annoying. Sure the nosebleeds were funny in the first couple of episodes, but it just got tiring.
In the first episode, they drew Sunako as a normal character, but every episode after that, Sunako was depicted as a Chibi character which made it feel ... as if she was a little girl. I get they want her to seem "ugly", but the chibi take on it was not the right approach.
Sunako has an "ugly" interest, which is dark depressing things. It was great that she was different, but the writers took this a little too far. They made her obsessively creepy, which made it hard to relate to her. In the end she was just plain annoying.

The other characters were great and fun to watch.

Overall, this anime was a good idea, but i feel the writers did not do their best.

I tried to watch the English dub, Wallflower, at first. I had to switch over to the English sub though, because it seemed like all the characters were yelling in the English dub.

I fell in love with the four main male characters and Noi, but simply ended up not liking the show itself because of Sunako.

Save yourself and don't watch this anime.

Any show whose main plot revolves around a bunch of guys attempting to make a girl pretty, I believe is doomed to fail. I cannot think of a more superficial or shallow plot than this. Can you?

The people who gave this show more than 5 stars, must be the same people who helped the Kardashians rise to fame. I just cannot see how else this show received over 7 stars.

Main flaws:

1. The female protagonist is annoying. But her "high pitch screeching" voice is even more annoying. I had to skip every part where she screamed over petty things, because ... that screeching sound was that unbearable. I wonder what the animation studio was thinking here?

2. I like pretty boys (typical anime style too), but in this show, the boys look like girls (lipgloss, makeup and all). I could not help but feel that they were all flamboyant gay men. Not that I have anything against gay people at all, but in this show, they're supposed to be straight. And while outliers exists (straight, flamboyant men who wear make-up), it was just ridiculous that all 4 of the men had to be this exact same way.

3. As mentioned earlier, the plot is really awful. I knew this before watching, but thought they could save it somehow, with interesting characters and a unique approach. I was wrong. The show is filled with cliche's and one dimensional characters. There really is no depth to any of the characters, which makes you care less about what happens to them.

4. The guys bully, harass and pester the girl into transforming (from "ugly" to pretty), from the moment she moves in with them, just so they can live rent-free. In what world is this okay, fiction or not?

5. A good portion of the 3 episodes I watched was about showing off how "handsome" the guys were, and girls fawning over them everywhere they went. It would've been okay if it happened once, in the 3 episodes we watched, just to set the tone as to how attractive they were.
But they over-did it here, which was a waste of time, because they could've spent that time on character development.

6. The most important aspect of good romance anime, is the relationship between the potential "lovers". Developing good chemistry between the characters, and allowing a natural build-up of momentum where they gradually fall in love, through a (emotionally) logical sequence of events, is what makes a story captivating.

Because that's how the story becomes believable, and how you as a viewer become emotionally invested in their relationship.

But in this anime, development of any kind is sort of thrown in your face, and given very little time to unfold and develop, before the show jumps to the next thing.

In other words, the pacing is quite lacking in this anime. In fact, the way the anime told the story felt a bit like this:

"and then she moved in, and then the guys immediately pestered her, and then they tried hard to transform her, and now they're at school, and wow - every girl is in love with the handsome guys, but now everyone is back home, and the guys are going to give it another try to transform the girl. But oh no, she's still resisting, so the guys will keep trying for a few more episodes, and then "boom", suddenly there's illogical character development. The girl is now transformed, and not only does she look different, she even behaves differently, and then and then and then".


7. The fact that the main female protagonist fell in love with the main male protagonist so early in the show, and over something as superficial as his "handsome looks", and then proceeds to refer to him as "creation of god", made me lose any respect I may have had for her.

There's something desirable (from a female perspective) of a male courting a female, who is a little bit hesitant at first, but then eventually gives in. But when the girl worships the guy she likes, and shows such desperation/thirst for him in the way she did, she becomes less respectable, and instead becomes pathetic. The main protagonist may have contributed to this show getting 1 star from me.

Maybe the show gets better past the 3 episodes, but I have a feeling it doesn't.

Don't Recommend

This is by far the worst shoujo I've completed, and its sort of a question of how bad my tastes are to watch 25 episodes of this. You learn pretty quickly what the show's animators and director were willing to do, and things don't move beyond that limit- as far as I can tell- ever. You can tell when a joke is going to be included, and when they'll try to subvert expectations.
Shows like this frustrate me looking back. The animation is bare minimum. Even Hanna Barbera made their characters look human. Far too often they used ... cutesy white figures as a way to stretch a few extra yen past their limit. I don't recall watching an anime and thinking, "Wow, I could have animated better than this." and yet in a sad twist of fate I seem to have done just that. It features all the flaws of 2000's anime without tapping into the nostalgic potential that tends to blend out the lack of quality with warm fuzziness, which means this show is only outdated. When Sunako was shown she was drawn well, however they don't bother changing her from chibi form besides a few seconds every few episodes.
At the very least melodrama wasn't spread out across multiple episodes due to a few characters not communicating properly. Instead every episode starts and ends their own melodramatic problem that can be quickly and cleanly finished due to comedy MacGuffins. So cleanly that nothing changes for anyone. I can't say I prefer it because both methods I've experienced and both I hate. I find more excitement plucking grass from the earth and tossing it in the air.
The music isn't bad, it's your typical anime affair. The dub actors were good. Most jokes were improved by the voice overs, in particular Noi, Auntie and Sunako always preformed admirably. Those three made the show far more watchable. There's also this goopy sound they used at the start that made me shiver. That's the only point I had to make on that. It was gross, which I liked.
If a good Shoujo is like a Happy Meal this was like cold chicken nuggets and fries. Spend your time elsewhere, weebs. If you want an adorable and fun romcom go read Higurashi or something.

I watched three episodes and I couldn't bear to watch any more because how absolutely PACKED this show was. The amount of dialogue and information given at once gives me a headache. They introduced like 20 different characters in the span of 2 episodes and none of them were given good shape, including the main one. On top of all this, this show tries SO hard to be funny and it's just not working. They jam pack gags and crappy characters and I still don't understand how the insane pacing doesn't give people headaches.

This concept was so cute and it's very disappointing to see that ... it was executed so poorly. The characters don't have a hint of personality to them.

Well, at first the plot idea appealed to me, it sounded original that 4 guys tried their best at transforming a girl into a lady, I thought there would be some funny situations in there.

However, it turned out to deceive me hardly, for several reasons:

Firstly, I have to admit that the character development is not the worst, you get to know the reasons and past 'trauma' I'd say, that make each one who they are at the moment. After saying that, in my opinion the boys' behaviour is pure trash, honestly.
it doesn´t seem fair to me that they only reach for Sunako when they are ... hungry, and the strong difference betweem genders really annoyed me because I do not find it realistic.

To my mind, this is a common problem in a lot of shoujo anime, despite this I still enjoy the genre, and an easy comparison would be Ouran HSHC because it is also a reverse harem, however I find that one it is better handled and it doesn't fall on these cliché gender roles as much. It is very exaggerated in Yamato how they leave all the housework to Sunako and the boys, especially Takano, get mad when she doesn't act as expected, and the fact that they are supposed to be shipped together is definitely not support nor find healthy.

Moving onto art, the animation may not be the best compared to the standards nowadays, but I honestly didn't mind that as I prefer 90's and 00's quality rather than the actual ultra-defined graphics. I have to say that the aesthetics of the series weren't my favorite, and also it disturbs me that Sunako is always on chibi-mode when the design of her character is the best, at least for me, and the anime was everything but hilarious to my mind, I watched 16 episodes and only had a couple of laughts.

The fact that all her personality is based on dark, gore films and elements could have been better, and I would say that the main reason why I dropped this anime was the lack of evolution of her personality, I expected it to be a gradual advance and I got tired of watching the same thing in every episode, I realised I wasn't enjoying it after giving it a trial and decided not to finish it.

Finally, I don't have a lot to say about the music, especially the background on the episodes, I actually liked it, whereas I think that the style of the opening doesn't really match with the plot of the series. I didn't dislike the song really, it just seems to me that is not appropiate for the dark vibe it tries to give, and, am I the only one who found the first images of the OP weirdly assembled?
It just looked like there wasn't a lot of effort put into it.

So i just finished watchig ''the wallflower'' and i have a few things to say



First of all, I was expecting a lot more from the anime but i must say i was very dissapointed from pretty much everything...the characters, the plot, the enjoyment everything was just dumb as hell and they were even times i couldnt stand watchig it.

Story: A girl suddenly has to live with 4 random guys who are supposed to turn her into a ''lady'' because her aunt requested them to do so?? just by reading this u can imagine how bad it is. I hated the fact that almost everything that ... was hapening in the anime had almost nothing to do with the main goal and most of the episodes felt like filler cause they werent even paying attention to turning her into a lady and they were just playing around.


I have to mention something about the comedy in this anime too and even though im not a fan of comedies i can tel the difference between a good and bad comedy and let me tell the comedy in this anime wasnt just bad, it was awful. The jokes were repitive and highily annoying. The same jokes they used at the frst episode were also used in every other episode and if u find loud screams, chibi, and irritating fan girls funny well first of all im sorry to hear that, but this will match u perfectly. I'm sorry but it didnt made me laugh. Not even once throughout the 25 episodes i watched and thats one of its biggest flaws cause its a comdedy after all, at least that part should have been enjoyable.


Character: Where do i even begin with the characters...I absolutely disliked how everyone in there HAD to be so perfect and charmig in every situation but mad disrespctful to the female lead because of her interests and appearance espeailly the guy who is supposed to end up with her is very greedy, ignorant and dumb. His only personality trait is looking sooo handsome that all the girls are in love with him and folllow him wherever he goes. The female lead, Sunako, is honesty trying to mind her own buisness but everyone is just pressurng her to change without her constent.


So as u can see there is zero character develepment and nothing much really changes in these 25 episodes, its just getting more and more irrifrustable.


Art, sound: Both art and sound were pretty decent. The art was overall interesting but the worst part was how they turned Sunako into a freaking chibi, that managed to make her seem more like a child rather than ''ugly'' and it doesnt sit well with me plus, we couldnt even see her true self and have a full opinion on her and her looks.

The sound was okay i geuss. It wasnt really bad but it didnt ''stand out'' as much as it should have. Both background music and themes were just blunt.



Overall, the anime has plenty flaws in my opinion and its not really enjoyable. I think they could have done a much better job in these 25 episodes. I wouldnt recommend watching it except it u enjoy cliche irritating shoujo and repititive comedy.

Gaaaaaaaah where to begin!? Why did I waste my time on this anime? WHY!?

Ok...I will say that this anime actually has a very good idea/premise...but that is ALL this anime has (And the ONLY reason I gave it a 3). Its annoying. The animation is god awful. Theres no progression in the story line. And its highly disappointing because it had promise to be something good!

The animation/art of this is so atrocious The men look like women, or ugly trannys to be more exact and yet the entire time you are being CONSTANTLY reminded of how beautiful these guys are supposed to be. REALLY? Some ... of them don't even have eyebrows! And they have disgustingly small lips! Theres nothing charming about the way they look at all, or act for that matter.

And then the Gothic Lolli girls...omg...every time they were on the screen I wanted to shoot my computer. They weren't funny, they were freaking obnoxious! All of the protagonist girls were! Super ugly, super loud, and able to get under your skin in under 2 seconds flat!

Even the main character is annoying! So much screaming/screeching over trivial things. Almost every episode you have to listen to her screech...and its a sound that makes dog howl (mine started howling when I had the volume up too high the first time). She doesn't seem to really make any progress in the entire 25 episodes and it ends pretty much the same way it started. With them being charged to make her not only into a lady (Which they failed) but into a super lady! Oh God....and the sexism of this show....the main character basically becomes a house wife/mother to the guys....hdafgukzfhak but I'm not going there, I'm done, I've ranted enough.

*Sigh* Thats about all I'm going to say about this series. Huge disappointment. It could have been done in a decent way similar to Ouran High School. It actually could have been a great series if they changed pretty much everything, but kept the premise.
