Both feature female android main characters who's job it is to save humanity and the world in a conflict between humans and machines. Both take place in a future setting including far future, with incidents of hacking, cyberpunk themes, and battles. Both feature important personal growth for the main characters and deeper aspects to the story as they unfold and both are well produced. If you like one you may like the other.

NieR: Automata Ver1.1a strongly resembled to me Ergo Proxy by common features of their atmosphere. Both animes take place in a time period where the world turned into a post apocalyptic one. There are also androids exists, main female characters are more likely a kuudere. Besides, in both series, there is implied indirectly a love between the main characters.

Both feature beautiful female main characters who are soldiers (or in the case of Violet, former soldiers), who are involved in long violent wars, and who have to come to terms with the reality that their wars they fought or are fighting may have broader implications for themselves or the world they are in, than they first initially considered as ordinary soldiers, leading to personal revelations and growth. Both are also very well produced, and feature gorgeous animation and settings. Violet also has cybernetic hands of a sort and 2B is an android so they share some cyberpunk themes.

Both are post-apocalyptic sci-fi shows that have androids as protags and that deal with similar themes/topics (e.g. what it means to be alive). Nier:Automata is more on the actiony side in comparison.

Both series depict a never-ending war between two different lifeforms with ties to humanity over the course of hundreds if not thousands of years. The protagonists also both undergo severe mental deterioration after a traumatic event causes them to change forever. Both series have a strong focus on themes of existentialism and purpose. If you love Nier you'll also love Land of the Lustrous (and vice versa).

Both are sci-fi action flicks with androids as protagonists that contemplate similar questions: meaning of being alive, finality of death, religion, AI cognizance, etc. Similar post-apocalyptic settings. Casshern has a more melancholic tone on the whole.

Both are action-oriented sci-fi shows that take place during a war between humanity and artificial lifeforms and similarly follow androids fighting for humans.

in this anime, just like in NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a, there is a war between androids and robots, however, this anime talks about a time when the war is already over and people, robots and androids are ready to live in peace, however, the androids themselves are fragments of war, war machines. In the anime itself, the robots themselves are trying to prevent a new war "at the end of the anime, a failure occurs and all the robots are out of control and the main characters themselves are androids and people are trying to cope with the threat" this anime is similar to the  read more

It shares a few elements of nieR:Automata as I find and left an impact on me. A half political half futuristic filled anime based on what is it about society itself that has a lot of aspects of a typical anime but a lot more though provoking. With our own world set a undergo a robotic revolution, Ot aims to give a view of what we as human are and can be but what we should be. 'Thought provoking anime with an impact on the viewer' is the best description I sternly believe.

Both take place during a large-scale war that has robots/androids fighting on either side. Both center around androids who are under the command of humans.

Both stories are post-apocalyptic. Through each story's storytelling, the past's history is revealed about mankind. NieR:Automata and Shinsekai Yori have deep plots that contribute to its intricate and thoughtful worldbuilding. The environment is also beautiful in both animes.

Both Nier:Automata and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence feature many similar themes. They both are well-produced cyberpunk works, both feature action and battles, and cyber hacking as part of those battles, and both have themes of cyber-marionette kind of artistic themes that take place in beautiful post-apocalyptic settings. They also both have introspective story layers that give a sense of mystery and that there's more to the story that will unfold than what appears at first on the surface. Additionally, the art styles are similar. If you like one, you will probably like the other.

Both involve soldiers fighting against machines to defend people living peacefully away from conflict. Bleak world with a lot fighting and loss, but also hope. Similar themes of life, death, finding purpose. The unique relationship between the two MCs is a central part of the story.

God Eater and NieR are post-apocalyptic series based on storylines from games. There are some basic similarities in their premise: the fight for survival against a stronger enemy. Neither bring something new to this premise, but this isn't the standard for making an entertaining anime. What God Eater and NieR excel at is the animation. A-1 Pictures (NieR) and ufotable (God Eater) certainly did not cut corners with their animation and character design. Their effort really shine when it comes to action sequences. Action will always be superior in visual medium, but the source of Nier and God Eater are games so an anime adaptation  read more

Girl's Last Tour and NieR:Automata are both post-apocalyptic stories that explore the themes of humanity, consciousness, and the meaning of existence. Both works also share similar settings where the world has been devastated by some sort of conflict or catastrophe, and the characters are facing the end of civilization. Both stories also feature the theme of survival and the characters struggle with finding the meaning of their existence in the middle of the ruins. The girls of the anime are alone in the ruins, while the androids of NieR Automata were made to fight a war and have lost their creators. Both stories also have elements of  read more

2B (Nier) and Deunan (Appleseed) are soldiers in a post-apocalyptic world ruined by a devastating war that has decimated the human population. The main characters are embroiled in a conflict that will determine the fate of humanity and the rise or survival of artificial life (e.g., bioroids, robots). Appleseed has dated 3DCGI, but you know whether this is a problem like every old anime. The ethical dilemma and philosophical discussions are very much central to the plot in Appleseed. Nier has a more subtle approach. Sci-fi is at its best when it explores important themes. If you agree with this statement then you might  read more
