Everytime I have a conversation about anime where I need an example for a terrible work the first name that comes to my mind is Sengoku Basara. It is probably the worst anime i have ever seen. I never dropped an anime so fast and I probably never ever will again.
But everytime I shrugged off one reason to drop this anime, the next scene gave me another to just stop watching.
The dialogues are horrible, the characters are annoying, the fighting scenes are absurd, ridiculous and just bad.
There is nothing that could possibly get you hooked. Well it could but only if you, for some reason, have a thing for useless fight scenes and bad character introductions and story-telling and uninspired works in general.
And to all the people who say that this one refers to Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors....why would someone make an anime about that? Dynasty Warriors has no story and it doesn't need one. But an anime does.
Sengoku is a pretty interesting period of japanese history. It's the golden age of warriors and leaves room for billions of interesting narratives. But instead of taking the chance by doing a great somwhat historical anime, they come up with this bulls*** where some of the main characters do have historical names but for some reason also have some weird superpowers.
Not only do these superpowers seem misplaced...
The thing with superpowers is that in order to make them interesting you got to find a way to give the viewer an idea of how they work. Sengoku Basara does none of it. It just throws explosions in your face because, you know, explosions are cool and badass.
The characters are so replaceable I forgot about them the moment their screentime ended. They were not interesting they were only a mix of different stereotypes. You get the feeling that you have seen each character introduced in the first episode a billion times before in many other titles.
I won't lose another word about this....thing. It already stole 20 minutes of my life I will never get back. Don't watch it, except you're in the mood for some real trash.
