Despite having different aesthetics and settings, both explore the basic foundations of a variety of martial arts. <br></br>Do note however that Kenichi is set in present time and the martial arts explored is exaggerated and mostly hand-to-hand combat. Gamaran, on the other hand, is set in a historical era and mainly revolves around sword-fighting.

Action is incorporated as a main part for both series. And while their settings are different, they stick to the prominent theme of growth. That growth involves the main male protagonist as they undergo heavy changes. Both series are also well known for their more complex stories that connects various characters. Do take note that both series contains violence despite being portrayed slightly different.
