It begins as an epic adventure with friends travelling, from island to island, from dungeon to dungeon, but soon it becomes a bigger issue that involve world domination, civil wars and abuse against the weak.

One Piece and Magi both follow adventures of main characters in a fantasy world with overwhelming potentials. There is a great deal of world building and character development for both series. And when it comes to action, they are decorative with creative details. The characters also are fun to get used to with comedy employed and the relationships that are shown. More importantly, both series creates the sense of of adventure that stays true to their premise with rich details.

Both manga have a focus on Adventure and friendship. He settings may be completely different, but each arc takes place in a new place with new adventures. Both have a humongous variety of characters, and have entertaining action and comedy. The biggest difference between the two (other than the setting) is that Magi has a larger focus on war while One Piece is freedom.

Both Magi and One Piece are adventure/battle series with a very strong emphasis on world building, comedy, and friendships. One way I've always liked describing it as that Magi has the world building of One Piece but the storytelling of Hunter x Hunter.

Throughout reading this manga, One Piece couldn't help but give me Magi vibes. There are protagonists that are optimistic and rather dense at times. Both series are about groups of friends going on epic adventures across their universes, the humor is even rather similar. Even the temporary plot changes are rather similar. Also, both dwell in deeper political topics like war and equality.

Both have brand world building with many kingdoms and politics, also both are battle shonen with the normal multitude of powers and a clear battle system.
