The idea of humanity in danger and the invasion of an unknown enemy that threats the world is present in both series. In fact, humanity must use technology with their latest line of works including mecha to combat foes. Both anime series takes place in an post-apocalyptic like setting where technology is standard above our own modern times currently. There is drama, tension, and fear regarding on humanity's future. At the same time, there's mystery that surrounds the origins of the story. Both series' main male protagonist must also take their lead in order to pilot mechas to combat the unknown foe. If the character designer of Gundam SEED and Xebec attempted to make RahXephon, you would get Fafner. The 2 shows have more of a focus on making you think using symbolism (and some mindf*cks), but without coming off as cheesy like a certain mecha franchise by Satelight. However, Fafner doesn't have the time travel aspect that RahXephon does. I like both, but I like RahXephon more. Enjoy!
