Both are broody and have moments of somberness to them as well as both having fantasy elements in them and also stylish visuals and art to look at as well too.

Both shows have characters with supernatural abilities, both series use a lot of dialogues and information to understand the characters, but there are also action and fight scenes, both have characters that are usually minors involved in dangerous and mature situations. Both series touches dark topics in a non-fast way, and i think if you looking more stories like that but with good actions scenes you can check out both shows.
Both are animes about the duet/protagonist meeting new people in hope to finish their mission, the characters have tragic backgrounds and they usually have to face them somehow.
The characters usually have fantastic/supernatural powers, which obviusly they use in their fights and the actions scenes, but there are a lot of dramatic scenes which not involved them, i think if you're into series about supernatural beings with tons of drama you're gonna enjoy both shows
