Altought both animes are extremely different to each other, the MC of Wonder Egg and Neon Genesis are 14 years old persons who have several psychological traumas that affect clearly their relationships with other people. Not only that, they share that there are two settings, the real world and the onirical world.
They follow for the earlier part the monster-of-the-week structure with the monsters (Angels in Evangelion) being quite different and some of them are pretty psychedelic. In the battles, the MCs of Wonder Egg Priority and Neon Genesis Evangelion struggle mightly against their own minds, while most of the time cruise in beating the monsters.

14 year-olds fight against monsters that they don't fully understand. Both shows are psychological with abstract endings. Both shows also had production issues which led the true endings to be aired at a later date. The plots are pretty different but there are some similar ideas/topics such as depression and self-worth. Overall, there are quite a few differences but there are also some big similarities, so if you loved WEP then you might like NGE too (or vice versa)

Being youth often means hiccups in mentality, sometimes not everything is happy days. WEP and NGE show this reality quite well.
They have a similar way to write disturbed characters who have relationship issues with someone else in their life, as well as internal struggles. They must also persevere in a world that goes between normal times and time to fight the evils of their worlds. It's a strange setting, but it does play well with how people behave with one another as they bear their troubles around with them.

Both shows are about children (specifically 14 year old) which have mental problems and they also have to face enemies and monsters while solving their own psychology problems.

Both of them are focused on the characters stories and thoughts, there are awesome fight scenes and great drammatic moments. Also the OST of both of these shows is memorable
