Although in story, style, and presentation these series have nothing similar, the psychological approach to both is quite similar: the depth of humanity, understanding of the self and questioning the existence of humanity itself. Both series travel completely different ways to express their ideas, but that doesn't mean that one of them is wrong, at the contrary, show how the same idea can be expressed beautifully in completely different manners . If you liked one due to the ideas it expressed, you, unavoidably, will like the other.

Evangelion's heavy influence on Kaiba is quite clear, particularly towards the end. These anime both combine heavy doses of symbolism and surrealist imagery with an emotionally moving, saddening storyline that can sometimes mask the positive and uplifting message that each show ultimately attempts to deliver. They both appear to be childish at first glance, but each one is incredibly mature and only for adult eyes. If you enjoyed one, you are almost certain to enjoy the other.

Both these series were made to be experienced rather than watched and critiqued. Although they both feature vague plot elements and sporadic character development the main appeal comes from just sitting back and enjoying ride.

Semiotic subversion of a common sci-fi genre; distinct and leaves you lost in thought once it ends. Interestingly enough, Kaiba's themes on identity and human interaction are the antithesis and direct response to NGE's stance on the matter.

Are you currently searching for a short series or two to add to your elitist collection to use for evidence of your obviously superior taste, or for a more modest individual, to make you question what makes you human? Look no further! Neon Genesis Evangelion is essential to the collection of any self-proclaimed elitist who's worth his/her salt, but Kaiba is the thing that truly will distinguish you as a true elitist amongst the phonies who's only 10s are Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Death Note. Both of these fine shows have a lot in common, and really force you to think about your own life   read more

Kaiba attempts to create an overarching world, analogous to Evangelion, but the slice-of-life elements are mostly what elevates it to the interest of psychology, at a more quintessential level, than the interpersonal.
