Both involve magic in a school setting. I personally like Mahouka no Rettousei better.
The MC for both are OP. Have the same feel where they are strong physically. The setting is a magic academy.

This animes are quite the same, let me explain why:
1.Both mc are op.
2.Both animes have school setting
3.Both mc are very good in martial arts
4.Also both mc have a dark past that they try to hide.
Imagine if you will, a world where Tatsuya Shiba (who now has emotions and is lazy) became a teacher. That would basically be this show as Glenn can cancel out magic, use high powered spells, and knows physical combat skills. Plus the needless part that they both take place at a magic high school gives it a familiar setting

For one, both Glenn and Tatsuya are overpowered. Both involve displaying magic that's fun to watch and creates epic battle scenarios and tension at the same time. Both have one main character ship; for the Irregular at Magic High School, it's Tatsuya and Miyuki, and for Akashic, I'd say Glenn and Sistine although there';s a huge age difference, but they work well together.
I also love the opening themes for both anime along with the rest of the music.

Shiba has a calmer exterior while Glenn tries to act cool (more focused on comedy) still both badasses in the anime when needed

There many reasons that Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records and Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei are similar to each other. The setting is in magic school and the protagonists have awesome fighting abilities and combat intelligence. They also have overpowered magic spells in their arsenal. Later on both series, there are conflict and fights occured within the magic school.
Protagonists who are lacking in ability according to societal standards but powerful in their own unique ways have always been present in all media. Akashic Records and Irregular at Magic High School are no exception to this.
Glenn and Tatsuya are both looked down upon at first for their poor societal standings. However, their hidden and powerful skills draw the attention of others and allow them to gain immense respect. The two have hidden pasts that are actually quite similar. The only differences are that Tatsuya is much more calm, calculated, and pragmatic.
