They don't take themselves seriously.
There is a setting here for both of them. Police VS mafia and saving the world kind of settings. But they don't care about that. Everything is about making jokes, making them both Boke-Tsukkomi slapstick kind of anime.
It just that doing slapstick in average modern high-school setting get old fast, so why not do it where the existence of superpower, werewolves, magic and world destruction is real? That gotta make things interesting.
Too bad, that has already started to get old too.

The kind of anime where you start liking the enemies as much as the main cast, sometimes even more.
They have a lot of WTF humor and trollish moments that are quite awesome once you think about it.
Both have a trap.
