They share a similar, contemporary art style that needs to be looked past to truly enjoy the story. Both anime have great characterization not seen elsewhere often, and feature unique OSTs you also don't hear too often in the anime medium. Masaaki Yuasa is also the director for both.

If you stand with the minority who actually adore Yuasa Masaaki & Tatsunoko Production's art-style, then watch Kemonozume. Definitely not for the faint heart, hell there was an actual fucking gore image in one of the episodes, and it has more NSFW scenes than Edgerunners.
The fight scenes and traditional samurai sword techniques really remind me of PPtA, same with the pacing that's pretty fast.
