I'm a physicist, so I really like being needlessly pedantic and strictly mathematical sometimes.
For example: I based my numerical ratings of my shows by lining them up from "best" to "worst" on one list (an impossible task). I then did the same separately for movies.
I then assigned each show on the list a number from 1 to 10 so that my entire list, when plotted, would follow a bell curve (gaussian distribution) with standard deviation ~2.6. That is, the average rating of my shows is exactly 5.5, and there are more 5's and 6's than 1's and 10's.
This makes my rating system really skewed. I would classify my "favorites" as 10's, 9's, and half my 8's. Then the "really good shows" as half the 8's, 7's, half the 6's. I really liked anything 5 and up, and the 4's were decent. 3's are OK, 2's are bad, and 1's are awful. The same goes approximately for movies, though note movies are not rated against TV anime.
I really like how this rating system is actually really stupid and inflexible. My idea of an "average" show would get a 3 or 4.
I also only give one rating per show/movie
But don't take my favorite characters seriously, except for Sousou Moutoku.
