youtube is weird for finding music; it recommends me all sorts of tracks with like, 0-100 views, and sometimes they're good, but usually they're not too remarkable? it's kind of like sifting through pennies looking for a quarter...

i'll have to give last.fm a real chance, then! can't wait to, like, scrobble or something. i'll look at chosic and rym too, but the "when i do it" rule still applies!

DGD's newer stuff is still great i think, but it just doesn't scratch that same itch that Mothership did, if that makes sense? for me personally i felt like they peaked at Mothership in the Tilian era and have been just slightly worse than that very consistently in every subsequent album. like, good enough to like, but it hasn't gotten better than that for me yet?

i'll definitely look more into Alkaline Trio; i only recently saw them because of that new track they had on the riserecords channel so i haven't had too much time to investigate. i also intend to look into the others you mentioned that i don't already know, but also i'm lazy so i'm kind of in a "i'll do it when i do it" mood!

spotify's weekly discovery queue has led me to way too many absolute gems for me to ever ignore it, but other than that i tend to just listen to my liked songs or hop around the youtube topic channels with like 30 views to find stuff. i can't say it's efficient, but it is entertaining to me...

i don't really touch lastfm nor rym; the latter i've been interested in but just haven't bothered looking into yet, and the former... i have preconceived notions about, so it's been hard to take it seriously as a platform. would you say they're both good platforms for discovering music without the algorithm interfering too much? i've honestly been using everynoise for exploring, but there doesn't seem to be a volume control and i can't listen to the full songs through the site itself so it's been slow-going.

i kind of just listen to everything if i can help it; unfortunately when you have a mild preference for a certain genre it's all the algorithm ever recommends so i have to go out of my way to find dissimilar genres

my favorite DGD album is Mothership, but Instant Gratification was really big for me when it came out so it's a close second! i do like their newer stuff especially featuring Andrew Wells, but nothing beats Mothership for me... though a lot of their old stuff with Jonny or Kurt is crazy good...

i would say i do mostly listen to either post-hardcore or like, indie alt rock? but i really only have a slight preference there; i know it's a cop-out answer but i really do just enjoy any genre, as long as the individual track sounds nice. according to spotify, my most-listened to genre of 2023 was "dark r&b," whatever that is...

i don't trust spotify's classifications, since i tend to turn a single song on loop and fall asleep to it, but my top 5 artists were Emarosa, YMIR, Blacklit Canopy, Unprocessed, and I Built The Sky, if that's any help...?

like, i would not consider adtr post-hardcore, but apparently they're classified that way? and then i'd actually consider eidola to be post-hardcore, but they seem to be considered... other genres?

genres make no sense. just off the top of my head, if we're okay with not caring about the technicalities, i really like dgd, eidola, i prevail, some of the newer bmth stuff... i would include saosin but honestly i've only ever been crazy about some demo they never actually released.

i think a lot of my favorites tend to blend into pop punk or prog in some way or another, but i feel like post-hardcore is the best way to describe the sound i like the most, if that makes sense?

how about you? not just limited to post-hardcore, anything and everything!
