I'm sure they don't want people to use these because this would affect the business of the world's corporations. So I think it's a money-related issue.
After reading about what CIA did with many scientists' research, I'm inclined to believe that there are many conspiracies out there.

Of course they hide things because there are many dirty secrets. No one would like to know that there is no democracy and we are enslaved by aliens who pull the strings behind the scenes. So I guess you have a point.

The world would be far more advanced technologically&more organized if those elites were to share that technology/inventions and weren't so selfish.

According to some sources, the government has used this technology since the XXth century. Many things are hid by the government(like the underground cities, the space colonies, the extraterrestrial beings and so on). Too bad.
I hope the truth will be unveiled in the next decades.
