Despite what you may have heard to the contrary, scientific studies are proving more and more that human pheromones are responsible for sexual attraction among human beings. Most of us are aware that pheromones are attributed with much in the animal kingdom (think bees and ants for example). However, do they exist in humans, and do they produce reactions in us as well? That is the question and it has been hotly debated for some time.
Pheromones cannot be detected through smell. Instead, science tells us that they are detectable through an organ called the VNO, or Vomeronasal Organ. The very existence of the VNO was hotly disputed for a number of years, primarily because only some people seemed to have it. In fact it was labeled as a vestigial organ, meaning that it is no longer of any use to us.
Then, in the mid 1980s a study was done that involved the noses of one hundred deceased adult humans. A staggering 70% were found to have the VNO, and since then further studies have been done. Despite this evidence, there are still some in the scientific community who insist that the VNO in humans is purely vestigial.
More studies and research has been done and now there is a strong possibility that there is indeed a nasal receptor that might well sense pheromones. For instance, one study showed that babies prefer the clothing that is worn by their mothers to that of other women. To determine this, cotton pads were worn for a few hours by each of the mothers in the study – incidentally there were ten. The pads were then given to the babies and at just six weeks of age, eight of them responded to the pad their own mother had worn, but not to the strange mother’s pad. In fact, they reacted by crying and refusing the pad. Clearly, those babies were able to pick up on something!
There are some researchers who do believe that there is indeed a relationship between body odor and what we would call attractiveness, although this must remembered as being very relative. Much of the research that has been done has indicated that pheromones do change unconscious behavior. What can be gathered is that we humans do release pheromones that stimulate feelings in someone of the opposite sex. Of course, this might be all but lost in humans thanks to the fact that we cover ourselves in perfumes and so on. The good news is that nowadays it is possible to purchase synthetic pheromones that contain chemicals, most notably Androstenone.
Synthetic pheromones are often available as cologne or as a perfume. They are widely used at pheromone parties because they are easy to come by, and science is beginning to reveal more and more evidence that backs up the idea that human pheromones do exist and do impact the behavior of those of the opposite sex. What makes the synthetic pheromones so effective and so popular is that the manufacturers take into account that males and females produce different pheromones, thus make synthetic pheromones for both the sexes. The manufacturer’s guidelines pertaining to use should always be adhered to strictly, even if you are attending or hosting pheromone parties.
Many who attend pheromone parties, or who have personal experience with synthetic pheromones, can attest to the fact that a very noticeable increase in confidence is perceived, allowing a more confident interaction with those of the opposite sex.
