I see, yeah I like the genre a lot as well. Although I feel like I hold that genre on too high of a pedestal expecting them all to be on par with Death Note, which just leaves me disappointed easily if that makes sense. I agree though, Death Note is king when it comes to that type of series.
I do have some stuff from that genre you would probably like. I'm not sure what you have and haven't seen so just tell me if you've seen these.
1.) Psycho - Pass
This series is similar to Death Note as there is a sort of rivalry/competition in the series kind of like L and Light. It's a pretty dark series as well and has a unique plot I personally liked. Good characters as well, although it's hard to compete with L when it comes to interesting characters.
2.) Steins;Gate
If you want a more smart series that requires you to think then this one is definitely one you would like. It's on my favorites list for a reason, the characters are on par with Death Notes imo and the stories just as interesting. Although there isn't quite a relationship like L and Light in this series it can definitely get as dark in certain parts.
3.) Zankyou no Terror
This one isn't on par with the other two I recommended but it's definitely a good series. This one has that L/Light relationship along with being dark. It's also rather short with it just being 11 episodes so you can finish it rather quickly. This series also has some good characters, but I wouldn't say their as good as the other series characters.
Again, I have no idea if you've seen these so if you've already seen these sorry I made you read all that for nothing lol.

I hear log horizon is like that but I haven't watched it yet. From what be seen, I'd say obviously code geass and death note, along with aldnoah.zero and zankyou no terror.
Cool, just remember that the casual discussion is full of insanity you probably don't want to be a part of. I see you like death note, have you seen code geass? It has a similar premise to death note, but the tone is very different.
