K is a multimedia-project, consisting of the anime (with season 2 coming next season), multiple short manga-series which explore the characters/story more, multiple LNs which again give background info and explanation for the characters, and the movie
The anime is literally two weeks (counting from Totsuka death a week prior to episode 1) in an entire universe.
It was never meant to fully explain the story and the characters. You could say that K is a giant puzzle, with each spin-off giving you some pieces here and there.
If you want a definition for the Sword of Damocles, the prologue of the SIDE:BLUE light novel does that quite well.
Yata is simply a name... Yatagarasu being the nickname (garasu means "crow")
If the Colourless King does give power to his clansmen it should depend on the respective king - since his type of power isn't consistant.
